Page 106 of Obsessing Over His Favorite
“If I were your wife, I’d never make things this difficult for you.”
She looked up at him with soft eyes, her fingers still resting lightly on his arm.
Lucas’s eyes dropped to her hand clutching his arm. "You are the one making things difficult for me right now," he snapped, before yanking his arm out of her grip and storming off.
Chapter 19 Delusional Woman
Amelia stood frozen, lips parting in shock as the rejection burned her like acid.
Just then, the announcer's voice echoed across the ballroom speakers:
“Mr. Lucas Countrell, we now invite you to the stage to officially sign the launch contract for the remarkable designer collection ‘Stars’, which has captured national headlines. Congratulations to Mr. Countrell and his lead designer for creating such an extraordinary line. ‘Stars’ will be the first collection this season to launch internationally!”
The room stirred with applause.
Amelia quickly composed herself and rushed to Lucas’s side.
“They’re calling us to the stage. We should go together,” she said with a bright, practiced smile, her voice laced with sugar-coated excitement.
Lucas gave her a stiff nod. Without a word, he turned toward the stage, and Amelia eagerly followed beside him, her heels clicking quickly to keep pace.
As they reached the stage, a tall man in a tailored charcoal suit stepped forward to greet them.
“Mr. Cantrell!” the man beamed, shaking his hand, then turning to Amelia with equal energy. “Miss Jones, it’s an honor.”
There was a flicker in the man's eyes—a silent exchange of understanding. Amelia gave him a faint, meaningful look, and he responded with the subtle nod of a man who had already been told exactly what to say.
The man turned back toward the crowd and microphone.
“This is a monumental partnership,” he announced, beaming. “We’re honored to sign this deal with you and launch these designs internationally on the same day they debut in Manhattan.”
He paused, his smile widening. “What makes this collaboration truly special is the story behind these designs. I’ve been told the pieces are nothing short of art.”
He turned to Lucas with genuine admiration.
He paused for effect, then added, “And of course, it’s even more beautiful knowing that this bridal collection is being led by a couple so deeply in love. A perfect match creating the perfect pieces for love itself.”
The moment those words left his mouth, the crowd gasped.
Flashes from cameras exploded across the room. The media, which had been circling from the sidelines, now surged forward like sharks smelling blood.
Questions flew through the room like wildfire:
“Mr. Cantrell, are you in a relationship with your lead designer, Miss Amelia Jones?”
“Are the rumors true?”
“Is this the official confirmation of your relationship?”
“Will there be a wedding soon?”
“Is this collection your engagement announcement?”
The party, now fully live-streamed, caught the frenzy. The broadcast aired everything in real-time—every question, every reaction.
Lucas stood frozen, jaw tight, the glare of the spotlight washing over him.
Beside him, Amelia subtly leaned in, her body brushing against his as if seeking protection—or trying to claim territory. Her hand hovered near his, not quite holding it, but close enough to suggest intimacy.
