I get the leftover food ready for Bobby to take to the shelter and then box up the last of the white chocolate and raspberry cupcakes to take home for Addy to try. Hopefully, he’ll like them.
Chapter3
Adrian
I bite into the cupcake as Fitz watches me. His brown eyes are slightly narrowed as he chews his bottom lip. I have no clue why he’s nervous. His cakes are always fabulous.
“Oh my God, that’s amazing,” I say before demolishing the whole thing in two bites.
The flavours of the white chocolate and raspberry are perfectly combined, neither overpowering the other. The cake itself is light and fluffy, the white chocolate not too sickly sweet.
“You should have these in the shop all year round, not just for Valentine’s Day.” I reach for another and eat that too.
“I’m glad you like them. I don’t think I’ll have them available all year, but I’ll bake a batch for you whenever you want me to.”
“Aww, you’d do that for me?”
“Of course. But don’t eat any more now.”
“Why not?”
He gives me a withering look. “We haven’t had dinner yet. What do you fancy?” When I shrug, he opens the fridge and then checks the cupboard. “We’ve got some salmon that needs eating. I could roast that with some asparagus and baby potatoes.”
My mouth waters. “Sounds amazing. Why don’t you let me cook? You’ve been in a kitchen all day.”
“I like cooking. You can keep me company and fill me in on the details Vanessa sent you. She has texted you back, hasn’t she?”
“Yes.”
I lean on a spare bit of work surface while Fitz pulls out everything he’ll need. I swear he never gets tired of cooking or baking. He was probably born with a wooden spoon in one hand and a fish fry in the other.
I get my phone out, so I don’t get any of the information Vanessa sent me wrong.
“She’s called Beatrice. She’s a dental nurse. She’s the sister of someone Vanessa works with. She’s twenty-eight.”
“Star sign?” Fitz asks with a cheeky grin.
“I’ll text Vanessa and tell her the fact file she sent me was incomplete.”
“I’m disappointed in your sister. I was expecting a five-year job history and blood type at the very least. Did she send you a photo?”
“Yup.” I turn my phone around.
“She looks sweet.”
“Sweet? What doesthatmean?”
Fitz pauses. “Sweet? Wholesome. Marrying material.” He winks at me. “I bet Vanessa would love to be a bridesmaid.”
I chuckle. “Don’t go giving my sister ideas.”
“She’s probably already picked out what colour suit you’re going to wear.”
“We’d wear,” I correct.
Fitz’s brow furrows.
“You’d be my best man, obviously.”
