Morales stuck to her side almost every second of the day, leaving a possessive fire constantly pulsing through my veins every time I saw his fucking hands on her.
I found myself having to muster all the restraint I could find not to kill him for thinking he had the right to touch her. I knew it was irrational since she was still his wife, but titles meant nothing. She was mine in every way that mattered.
The only time I’d had the opportunity to get her away was last week when she’d had to come here, to make sure everything would be set and ready for tonight’s gala.
I’d tried to follow her inside and find a way to give us a private moment. But instead, she’d insisted on me staying put inside the car and driving straight home once she was done, apologizing and claiming she had a million more things to do.
I tried to hold onto my anger, but I was failing miserably, regretting leaving her all alone upstairs. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked around the room.
Something was off. Sofia was nowhere to be seen. I couldn’t see her, couldn’tfeelher presence in the room.
I quickly swiped my gaze around to find Victor in case she was back at his side, but he was also absent.
I left the room once again, climbing the stairs two by two to make sure she was still on the balcony, but when I peered through the glass door, she was no longer there. I looked around, searching each room on the floor to no avail.
What the fuck?
My heart dropped, panic surging through me as I burst through the glass door, deciding to look around one last time before heading back downstairs and alerting Jaxon.
Leaning up against the railing, I scanned the length of the property, letting my eyes rove over every inch visible. I was about to head back inside when I saw a silhouette appear out of the corner of my eye.
The harbor.
I narrowed my eyes, hovering to get a closer look before it disappeared.
I couldn’t tell whether I was imagining it, but a figure dressed in a black dress, the skirt billowing behind them, was dragging something wrapped in some sort of gray tarp.
Sofia?
I would recognize her anywhere, but what was she doing at the container port?
And what on earth was she hauling around?
Right as she steered behind a corner, the tarp lifted slightly, revealing what was concealed.
But it wasn't a something. It was asomeone.
CHAPTER32
SOFIA
Istayed tucked in the darkened corner of the room while I patiently waited for him to wake up, which should be any minute now.
The inside of the cargo was empty, except for the desk lining one side and the single chair sitting in the middle, my subject bound to it. My instruments lay on top of the table, lined and ready to be used for his hearing. A low lamp shed light across the surface, illuminating the rest of the room in a soft yellow glow.
His arms were strapped to the arms of the chair with rope, his legs bound in a similar fashion.
Morales slowly roused from his unconscious state. He tried to move, lightly stirring against the metal chair he was anchored to, only to realize he was completely restrained.
He struggled, this time harder, against the bindings that were holding his arms and legs wide, leaving him spread out and immobile for me to play with. He jerked again against the rope, a muffled noise resonating against the hood that covered his head.
The clear plastic tarp crinkled beneath my heels as I walked to the table, selecting an option. I leaned against the edge and crossed my legs, flipping the serrated knife back and forth.
“Who’s there?” he shouted, filling the quiet room, the echoes of his muffled wailing answering him back.
Fucking pathetic.
I bet he hadn’t imagined his night ending this way. He’d agreed to meet his wife for a fun time, only to end up bound under completely different circumstances.
