“In private,” Theo added.
Victor ran a frustrated hand over his face, then headed to his office. Theo followed him in, closing the door behind.
What the fuck could they be talking about that required privacy?
Everyone remained quiet. They came back out a few minutes later, with Victor looking angrier than he’d been earlier.
“You need to pack,” he stated, leaving no room for discussion.
“I’m sorry?” I must have misheard. I was busy trying to understand what he’d just said when he spoke again. This time with more urgency.
“Now.You have five minutes while Theo gets the car ready.”
My eyes narrowed at him, a mixture of confusion and impatience bubbling to the surface as I directed my attention to Theo.
Scowling, I crossed my arms. “I’m not going anywhere with him.”
Victor shut his eyes, rubbing forcefully a palm down his face. “Olivia, don’t start now. This isn’t up for discussion. Go pack or you’ll leave with nothing,” he said, exasperation testing his patience.
Leave with nothing.
Like I fucking cared. I couldn’t leave this house. I wouldn't have access to anything.
And being stuck with him. Alone.
For days.
Ay, carajo.
Theo chimed in, “There’s been a compromise, Mrs. Morales. We need to get you to safety.”
“And who thefuckgave you the power to make decisions?” I bit out, glaring at him.
“That’s enough,” Victor snapped, silencing both of us. “You now have four minutes before you both have to leave.”
He turned to Theo, dismissing me. “I know this wasn’t part of your contract, but I need you to keep her safe.”
Their chatter faded as I marched up the stairs.
“I'll keep her safe, sir,” I heard Theo say before I shut the door behind me.
Okay, Sofia, piensa. How the fuck are you going to keep this going if you don’t have full access?
I stalked across the room, going straight for my dresser. I bent down, grabbing the nondescript, black phone taped underneath it, which had stayed there undisturbed for weeks, quiet and gathering dust. Powering it on, I sent a quick message to the only number on there.
Me: It’s time.
Now, I just had to hope the person on the other end would understand and take over until I came back.
I ran back and forth, trying to fit as much as I could into the large bag I’d found in the back of the closet. I was barely able to fit a few pieces of clothing when a knock came to the door. I reached for the doorknob as Theo opened it, hitting me square in the forehead.
Pendejo.
“We’re leaving,” he grumbled.
Obviously.
“That wasn’t four minutes. I’m not do—” I started, rubbing a hand over my forehead to dissipate the headache that was looming.
