“W e have a surprise for you!” I hollered as soon as we returned home and walked through the elevator door.
It had taken an entire day of distracting Runa and organizing to make it happen, but now that it’s all ready to go, I am bursting at the seams with excitement. Eris is too; he just isn’t showing it.
Runa comes down the hallway wearing a suspicious smile.
Her dark brown hair is tied in twin braids framing her perfect face, her bright green eyes blazing with curiosity.
Leaning against the wall at the end of the hall, she crosses her arms over her chest, wearing only my white Predators T-shirt; the white a stark contrast to her dark golden skin.
She doesn’t say anything, just raises an eyebrow with a smirk, waiting for me to tell her, but she isn’t getting off that easy.
“Pack your bags. Necessities. We’ll get everything else we need when we get there,” Eris clips, not giving anything away. I’m too worried if I open my mouth, the entire surprise will come spilling out and ruin the look on her face when we get there.
Confusion continues to mar her face, her arms falling slack at her sides as she stares at us, expecting more information than the dubious instructions Eris dropped at her feet when he kept walking right past her to his room.
Following his lead, I head in her direction, but I can’t help but to stop and slam my lips to hers for just a moment before I head to my room to pack my own bag of necessities.
She whirls around in the spacious hallway, and I can’t help but to shut my door, laughing the whole time. I know that if she gets her hands or lips on me, I won’t be able to hold it in, and I don’t want to be the surprise ruiner today.
She tries the doorknob, and when she realizes I’ve locked it, she scoffs at me, bangs on it once, and heads for Eris’ door.
His opens, and I hear her shouting at him for information until her words are cut off, and I can practically feel her need from here.
Whether he’s touching her or just kissing her, he’s got her distracted for a second at least.
The quiet only lasts a minute, though, as she makes an adorable screeching noise at him before she stomps past our rooms and back to hers—hopefully to pack like we asked her to.
With our bags at our feet, we stand in the foyer waiting for her to come down with her own.
After a few minutes, I get antsy, so I rummage through the fridge for a snack and something to drink.
Eris is also starting to get nervously agitated but won’t admit it, so he just keeps checking his watch.
I don’t know why. He hired a private jet, so it’s not like we’re gonna miss our flight or anything.
Just as he drops his hand with a scoff, she finally emerges, lugging two overstuffed bags of what can’t possibly all be necessities, causing me to lose control of the laughter that quickly climbs up my throat. “Those are all necessities, Darling?”
Her eyes shoot daggers at me across the space as her cheeks pink with blush.
“I’ve never really gone on a spontaneous trip before…
I’ve never really gone on any trip before.
I didn’t know what to pack, especially without knowing where we are going,” she finishes as she watches her toes kick lightly at her bags now resting on the floor by her feet, looking embarrassed.
Eris growls at me through our bond for making her feel that way.
He approaches her slowly, but she doesn’t look up at him.
Curling his hand around her jaw, his thumb rubbing her chin, he kisses her on the forehead before he lifts her eyes to his.
“Ignore him, Precious. Are you ready to go?” he purrs at her, instantly melting her rigid posture, shoulders loosening and no longer at her ears.
She nods, offering him a weak smile, then leans in and kisses him on the cheek, and…I’ll be damned…my big, grumpy brother smiles and may have just blushed a bit himself.
Fully scolded, I approach her, nuzzling the top of her head and whispering into her hair, “I’m sorry for being insensitive.”
She nods into my embrace, wrapping her arms around me before Eris disengages her from me and effortlessly lifts her into his arms, making her squeal with laughter. “You get the bags, brother. I got the important stuff.” He tosses her over his shoulder as he makes his way to the door.
Laughing, I do as I’m told and collect our bags before hurrying after them.
