Scarlett
S everal weeks have passed since the battle, and our combined pack is thriving. The funerals were difficult, painful, and a reminder of the sacrifices they made. We honoured every single one of the fallen, so their names are never forgotten. They fought in honour and died heroes.
After some deliberation on Dad’s side, he agreed to Elijah’s request to banish Fiona’s parents from the pack. He hasn’t forgiven Meredith for her attempt on my life back at the trial and said we didn’t need any more toxic people with a motive for revenge around and he’s done with second chances. I agree; we can’t risk losing any more pack members.
Aside from that, everything is going fine, well except for one chilling event that we were notified of. The traitor, Alpha Daniel was murdered and found dead in his bedroom. The odd thing was there had been no sign of a break-in, and there wasn’t a scent to catch onto. It left all the surrounding packs feeling confused, but with no proof, no one pointed fingers and it’s for the best. After all, his pack already knows he was the reason the allied packs lost so many members. He betrayed us. No one really cared about his death, he wasn’t the best of alphas. His Beta took charge of the pack and will remain until Daniel’s twelve-year-old son is ready to take over at eighteen.
Someone did pop into my head, who may have been behind it, someone I am certain was more than capable, but Elijah shut that thought down, and we both agreed we won’t ever speak about it. And just like that, the occurrence became old news and soon people forgot about the strange murder. That’s how life is after all.
Half of the old Desert Storm Pack members have been moved to our pack, and everyone who wanted to join has been initiated. With the influx of it all, we constructed a second packhouse and many smaller houses for families. I sold off Zidane’s shares and assets and transferred some of the businesses into the Blood Moon Pack, making the pack finances grow along with the large number of pack members that have now joined us.
Zidane also had a fair amount of savings which, although Elijah said Indigo and I should keep, neither of us wanted it and said it should be used for the pack. So all in all, everyone has settled in great. There were some who wanted to join other packs; Dad and Elijah helped them get settled into whichever of the packs that offered to take people in.
Candice has recovered rather well and is happily living in her cottage. Her and Mama’s first meeting was emotional, but one that was truly needed. Despite not having any control over the situation, both women apologised for not being there for the other.
Things have been smooth sailing for everyone, and the mood has lifted a lot over the past few weeks. Monica is now sporting a very noticeably, cute baby bump, a werewolf pregnancy is six months long rather than the usual nine months like a human. Aaron is halfway excited and halfway stressed out that he won’t be a great dad, while Elijah just taunts him about how he’ll be taking care of a pup while he’ll be enjoying the childless life. That thought makes me wonder about us having kids. Just the thought is wild.
Although everyone, including Mama and Dad had returned, some are still staying at hotels whilst more houses are being built. Although everyone is working fast to build more houses, we still need several more. But we are on track and things are all coming along smoothly. Elijah spends a lot of time building, and Goddess does the man look good cutting wood, or just sweating under the sun.
As for Elijah and I, we are doing great. Most people are accepting of our relationship, and though a few found it surprising, most everyone came to terms with it quickly. Admittedly, the two of us make a great pair and are very much in love. My nightmares are less frequent, but I know Elijah’s seen enough. He comforts me after every one of them, vowing to always protect me.
Angela and Cassandra had gone on a short trip away and, much to my happiness, my friend returned marked. Both of them decided to stay here at the Blood Moon Pack and Cassandra has also been initiated in. She is a confident, strong woman who is very patient and understands Angela. I don’t think Angela’s parents took it well, but Cassandra is super protective of her and they’ve both decided to set up a home together far from her family, which I think is for the best.
Today is the day Elijah officially becomes Alpha and Dad steps down. Finally.
It is also the day I will officially rejoin the pack and take my place as Elijah’s Luna, or as he likes to say, his Co-Alpha. But I don’t need a title to be the Alpha I am, so I don’t mind whatever.
Angela, Cassandra, Monica, Indigo and I had gone shopping for tonight’s party a few weeks ago, having all been excited and shockingly, me too. For once, I was happy to scour through several stores and try on countless dresses to find the perfect one for my special night.
This ceremony is nothing less than the werewolf version of a wedding, and it’s important. Some werewolves pray to more gods than just Selene, and although a lot of werewolves have regular weddings as well, for me, this is it. The day we take our place at the front of this pack and vow ourselves to one another and to the pack under the full moon. This is one of the most important events in the life of an alpha.
It is now mid-afternoon and I am sitting in Angela and Cassandra’s lounge. Monica and Indigo are here too, and a few makeup artists are getting us ready. Angela has refused to let me see Elijah all day, being absolutely annoying and saying we had too much to do. I’m sitting here, glaring at my best friend.
“I hate you,” I say, as Angela simply rolls her eyes.
“I don’t care, babe. Look, Elijah needs to yearn for you. He needs to want to strip you down the moment he lays eyes on you and understand what longing means. You’re always stuck to him like glue!” Cassandra and Monica laugh at this, but I simply pout.
“Well, he is my mate. And you’re one to talk. Cassandra’s right here!”
“She isn’t wrong, angel,” Cassandra agrees with me, leaning over and giving Angela a soft kiss. I pout, although I am happy for my friend. I do miss Elijah.
Thinking of me? His voice comes through the mind-link.
Obviously. Although Angela was like ‘don’t even mind-link Elijah’ , I reply, imitating her tone, looking in the mirror as the stylist tugs at my hair. Luckily, the women are from the pack so we can get ready comfortably at home rather than going into town.
She needs to be put in her place. I am not happy that I haven’t been able to get my hands on you. You’re the Luna, Kitten, the Alpha Female. Show her who’s boss. I smirk, amused at his reply.
Are you suffering that badly? I tease, Tell me, what is my handsome hunk doing?
The woman begins working on my makeup and I remain still, enjoying our conversation. I glance outside, seeing the sun is low in the sky. Not long now, I think.
Just a few preps for tonight’s ceremony. Can’t wait for you to be my official Luna, baby. His husky voice sends a knot of pleasure through me, and I bite my lip.
Me too… see you later, I say before ending the mind-link, knowing if we continue I will want to find him right now and then we will both be late.
“Scarlett was mind-linking Elijah,” Indigo adds, earning herself a glare from me.
“Oh, leave her alone! It’s ok to miss your mate. They have been apart for hours,” Monica says, making me give her an appreciative smile. At least someone is on my side.
“Oh please, you just miss Aaron,” Angela snorts, making Indigo snicker.
We all carry on teasing one another and soon my hair and make-up are complete and I can get into my dress. I stand up and walk over to my glamorous red gown. My heart skips a beat, my nerves getting the better of me.
This is it; we’re becoming the Alpha and Luna of the pack. Suddenly, a wave of nausea hits me. I cover my mouth, fanning my face.
“You okay, babe?” Angela asks, jumping up, startled. All eyes turn to me and I nod.
“Yeah, perfectly,” I say, “I just feel sick.”
Silence ensues as the six women in the room stare at me.
“Oh my god, maybe you’re…” Monica says. My eyes widen, realising what she’s insinuating.
And… I haven’t had a period in ages. I’ve been so busy I didn’t even realise.
“Oh, wow… Does this mean I’m going to be a double aunt?” Indigo asks, jumping up. “That is a weird title. When the pup is older and says, hey Aunty are you Mom’s sister or Dad’s? Damn, that one is going to be fun-”
“Don’t get ahead of yourself. It might not even be that,” I remind her.
“Wait, wait! Remember the time I bought you those tests, Monica? I’m sure I have the extra one around here somewhere!” Angela rushes from the room.
“I don’t need to test!” I shout, but she’s long gone to dig it up, and this is Angela. She will find it with her sheer determination alone.
“She’s not going to rest until you have tested,” Cassandra remarks, amused, and she’s not wrong.
“How are you feeling, Luna?” one of the other women named Leah asks, curiosity in her eyes.
“Let’s see if it’s even true. Let’s not repeat this assumption to anyone outside of this room,” I say. The women nod respectfully just as Angela comes rushing in, waving the packet in triumph.
“Off you go!” she says, ushering me towards the bathroom. I glare at her.
“Stop it! Who said I need to pee?”
“Force it.” She waves her hand as if that’s easy.
“I won’t be telling anyone but Elijah first,” I snap, making Angela’s face fall. Her eyes widening in sadness.
“Really?” she asks. I narrow my eyes.
“Yes, unless you zip it,” I lie, secretly thinking I really am not going to tell anyone if I am, not until I tell Elijah first. I enter the bathroom, taking a deep breath. Well, here goes nothing…
