the others

Skylar’s blood sang in his veins as he hung up the phone. His heavy breathing was the only sound in the room, even though there were three other occupants.

The men his handler found weren’t part of The Void’s team—they were simply some guys that were down for whatever, willing to follow orders and kill if the price was right.

Just what Skylar needed. Anyone that was attached to The Void would want the Viper contract for themselves.

But they couldn’t have Viper. That kill was Skylar’s, and Skylar’s alone.

Skylar peered down at his phone, checking the coordinates. He didn’t recognize where it was, so he called his handler.

“What’s up?” his handler said.

Skylar rattled off the coordinates quickly. “How far is that from where I am now?”

His handler paused for a moment, his fingers typing along the keys quickly. After a brief moment, he said, “It’s an hour and a half from your current location. Maps are in your email. It looks like an empty field in the middle of nowhere. Lots of tree coverage.”

Skylar smiled, though it’s more of a grimace. “Good. I have your assets. They’ll work for what I need done. Get me anything else you can so I can study this location. It could be a trap.”

“On it.”

Skylar hung up and met the eyes of the three men.

“You’re all good with long range rifles?

” They nodded. “Good.” He opened his laptop and pulled up the map that was sent to him.

“This is what we’re going to do.” He pointed to three separate spots in the trees.

“You’ll each take one of these locations, guns at the ready.

You let me get some good shots in. As soon as he’s on his back, I’ll give you space and I want you to incapacitate him.

Only incapacitate him. I want the final kill, got it? ”

The men nod, not too big on words.

“Good.”

Skylar rose from the couch and limped to the bathroom.

Once the door was shut, he whipped his shirt off and removed the bandage from his side.

The sutures looked good, no sign of infection.

He checked his leg as well, making sure the wound and stitches were clean, and he could put weight on that limb.

He’d have to do a lot of moving around tomorrow night.

Viper was squirrelly, and Skylar begrudgingly acknowledged that he was a good fighter. If Skylar was going to take him out, he had to be as close to one hundred percent as he could be.

His life and his revenge depended on it.
