I wasn’t quite thinking of the supernatural sense of smell when I decided to have sex with Liam in a classroom. I didn’t regret it. Blue Matthews would be so ashamed, but I wasn’t really his daughter, so I didn’t care. It was amazing, and I’d do it again.
As soon as we joined Lucian and Khalid at the table, Lucian’s nostrils flared and Khalid’s eyes flashed amber. Oops.
“I take it you enjoyed yourself?” Khalid asked.
“She’d better,” Lucian said.
“Who do you take me for? I take care of my lovers,” Liam said.
“He really does,” I said. “Okay, that’s adorable.”
Ivar had Iman draped across his shoulders and was hand feeding her bits of meat. I held my hands up when she hissed at me for calling her cute. Ivar shoved another piece of meat at her and she happily resumed eating.
I had that weird feeling again. The dining hall disappeared, and I was in the forest we did the trials in. The scream overtook me again, but I didn’t pass out this time. I wiped the lone tear out the corner of my eye.
Someone was dead.
I looked to Khalid because whoever it was should have gone to him. But Khalid was sitting there alert.
“Whoever it was must have gone to Professor Gefn. She seemed convinced she should have gotten Kira and now that I’ve looked into it, she’s right. Kira was a warrior and Freya got half the warriors slain in battle.”
“Quick, look around. Who’s missing?” Lucian asked.
Most everyone had frozen in their seat when I screamed. Even if they weren’t raised supernatural, they knew what it meant by now. We were trying to account for everyone as people were getting up to check on their friends.
Liam and I were late getting to lunch, so there were a lot of people who would have already finished lunch. Off the top of my head. Adrian and his team were missing, but so was Lola, Mazen, and Radames.
Radames usually ate and disappeared, so that wasn’t unusual. Lola seemed like she enjoyed holding court with her minions, so her not being here was weird. I didn’t think it was odd Mazen wasn’t here. I knew he was looking into what happened to Erica.
Adrian being missing wasn’t unusual, either. I didn’t like the guy, but there was a campus rugby league he’d immediately signed up for. Adrian and his friends usually ate and then went outside to practice.
I had that feeling again. The only person who was usually here and wasn’t was Lola. She was a victim. She was one of the first victims and it just made sense she was the only one who was around to tell anyone anything to incite violence against Alexios.
So, why was I feeling more and more that Lola was more involved in all the death and disappearances than just being a victim of it?
Was this some magical sense I needed to be paying attention to or was I just being petty because I didn’t like her that much?
I didn’t like how she dismissed the professors, how she kept touching Liam after he asked her not to, or even how she was treating Mazen.
Did that make her one of the Forsaken Ones? And if it did, who was the other one? She didn’t beat herself.
Professor Adamastus approached our table.
“You. To Headmaster Mykene’s office.”
We all looked around. He wasn’t pointing, and he only had eyes for Morgana, so no one knew who he was talking to.
“Which one of us?” Liam asked.
“Fuck it. All of you,” he said, storming off.
I had a feeling this was an Anubis thing, and he actually meant Khalid, but we could be useful, too.
Liam needed to find out where it happened to heal the trees and ask if they saw anything new.
If Lucian got enough information, he could do his thing with GPS and figure out who wasn’t in the dining hall because they were out killing students.
It should be easier than pin pointing people in the trials.
If Lucian could figure out if the same people were by Kira and this new victim when they died, we might have a name to put with the Forsaken Ones.
And I’d be a little closer to knowing if Lola really was one of the Forsaken Ones or if I was just projecting because I didn’t like she kept touching my boyfriend.
