W e were quite a team. Khalid was open about the fact that he didn’t trust Mazen and thought he was lying. He might not be wrong, but I also didn’t feel like Mazen was a bad person. I had all these feelings that I wasn’t voicing that Lola was a bad person and Mazen deserved better.

We were back in Arcane Magic with Professor Gefn. History was just as fascinating as the first class. Professor Kane had a sound theory of how the world came to be. She taught us the accepted supernatural version and then she told us how she thought it happened.

Moment of truth in Arcane Magic. Professor Gefn only said to bury the jar when the moon was waning and the moon happened to be waning the night of our first class. Morgana was the one who told me to get my ass outside and bury my jar because checking the moon cycle was a test.

In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have had shower sex without a condom until Professor Gefn told me for sure I wasn’t going to get pregnant. I wanted my spell to work because I wanted to be good at college and be able to have sex, but also because Professor Gefn slightly terrified me.

She was sitting on her desk swinging a shapely leg as we took our seats.

“I see most of you actually checked the cycle of the moon like you were supposed to and are protected. You. You have no protection against pregnancy. Did you not think to check the moon cycle or do you just not care about getting pregnant?”

She was looking right at Lola, who just tossed her hair over her shoulder haughtily.

“I’m on the shot. I got my latest one two days before I got kidnapped. No offense to your magic rock, but I’ll take actual science.”

Damn. Even if I thought that, which I didn’t, I’m not sure I would have told Professor Gefn that. Professor Gefn broke into this music laughter and Lola was dumb enough to smile. I had a feeling that laughter was about to proceed some kind of physical or verbal smack down.

Morgana said the vampires were technically allowed to bite us without our consent in magical combat only because we were supposed to be learning how to fend them off. Something told me if Professor Gefn wanted to magically zap someone in the ass, it wouldn’t be a problem, either.

“As soon as you stepped into that pool and unlocked your magic, your bodies changed, even if you can’t feel it. Your body burned through any hormones you might have been taking. You might want to stop by the healer for a test.”

I looked over. Mazen was visibly green. I didn’t know if Radames was with her like that, but he didn’t really look worried. Lola didn’t seem like she cared all that much.

“I’ll get you pregnant, love,” Adrian said.

Yeah, that guy was definitely not the reincarnation of Jesus.

Mazen’s hands tightened into fists when Lola just giggled and winked at him. I didn’t know how, but I could just tell Mazen wasn’t supposed to be with Lola. We were bonded to someone and if that someone wasn’t here, they’d get here soon. Mazen and Lola weren’t supposed to be together.

I’d never say that to him because he thought they were. Professor Gefn advised Lola to try again the next waning moon and launched into her next lesson. This one didn’t involve magic rocks. We were learning transmutation. She wanted us to turn an orange into an apple.

It was harder than it looked. Khalid was the only one who managed it. Mine exploded. Liam got frustrated and bounced his off Adrian’s face. Lucian was furious because he was used to being good at everything.

“Practice!” Professor Gefn said. “I expect you to have this down by your next class. Ivar, can your group stay after class?”

We left and went to potions. I could tell Liam was irritated with Lola. She was flirting again, and he said she kept getting herbs wrong and nearly ruined his potion.

We were brewing a sleeping draught this time. It was supposed to be like a weak tonic we could add a few drops to tea or warm milk if we couldn’t sleep. I hadn’t really had that problem since Lucian started sneaking into my bed, but I could see where it might be needed.

I liked potions. Professor Thornheart was a brilliant teacher, even if he was a little prickly. We all successfully made our potions again except for Lola. Professor Thornheart peered down his nose at the sticky green mess in her cauldron and then looked at Liam.

“I suggest you tutor your lab partner if you want to pass my class.”

Liam was furious. He grabbed my hand and stormed out of class, but he took a detour and shoved me into an empty classroom.

“Sorry, Lola is infuriating. She kept touching my leg way too close to my dick. I told her that was catmint, not lavender. Even if they look the same, they don’t smell the same.

She tried to drop some in my cauldron, so I pretended to sneeze and elbowed her in the tit because I didn’t know what else to do.

I’m stuck with her for the rest of the year. ”

“Is there anything I can do?” I asked, wrapping my arms around his waist.

We had a two-hour break to eat lunch and study. I knew what I wanted to do, especially now that I knew my birth control spell worked. Liam grinned.

“Yeah, when I said I couldn’t call you my girlfriend yet, you said something about a conversation. If you’re mine, I want to hear you say it.”

I stood on my tip toes and bit his ear.

“I’m yours. Why don’t I show you on that teacher’s desk?”

“Sage, I would be honored to defile that desk with you,” Liam growled.
