Page 95 of Massacre
Standing over Daniel Scott, I smiled as I watched blood and brain matter seep onto the street. This motherfucker would never hurt another person again.
“Drop the gun, Dwayne,” a firm voice said from behind me. Looking over my shoulder, I spotted Sheriff Declan O’Rourke pointing his gun at me.
“He was a pedophile.”
“I know.”
“He tortured and abused my wife.”
“I know, Dwayne,” Declan said as he slowly lowered his gun. Holstering it, he cautiously walked over to me. Reaching for my gun, I let it go and watched as he handed it to the deputy behind him. “Massacre, I knew who he was the second he walked in my station.”
“How?”
“You’re not the only one with contacts,” he said, reaching for his handcuffs. “I’m sorry, Dwayne, but I have to cuff you and take you to the station.”
I nodded as I looked around at everyone watching. And when my eyes found hers, I mouthed,I’m sorry.
“And that’s everything,” I said as I finished my story.
Reaper glared menacingly at me from across the table and said nothing. Not a single fucking word, which didn’t bode well for my future. Reaper was a man of many traits, but wordless wasn’t one of them. The angry fucker always had something to say, and generally it was with a raised volume to instill fear. However, the longer he silently sat there, the more I fidgeted.
“Boss?”
He held up his hand, and I instantly shut my mouth.
Yep.
I fucked up big time.
I was a dead man walking.
I sat there, my palms beginning to sweat as the reality of my situation sank in. I knew Reaper well enough to understand that his silence was a bad sign. Very bad. My mind raced, thinking of all the possible ways this could end for me. None of them were pretty. I considered making a run for it, but where would I go? Reaper had eyes and ears everywhere. I was as good as dead.
But the more I thought about it, the more I knew I wouldn’t have done anything differently.
I wasn’t ashamed Daniel Scott died.
In fact, I was fucking giddy about it. That motherfucker would never hurt another living soul ever again, and I hoped he burned in Hell for eternity.
The silence stretched on; each second felt like an eternity as I awaited my fate. I knew Reaper well enough to know that he wasn’t a man to be crossed, and my actions had undoubtedly crossed a line. Still, I refused to regret my decision to end Daniel Scott’s life. That piece of shit had it coming, and I’d do it all over again if I had to.
As the minutes ticked by, my anxiety grew. I knew that Reaper’s silence was a bad sign, but a part of me held onto the hope that he would understand my actions. After all, Daniel Scott was a threat to all that we held dear. Surely, Reaper could see that I had no choice but to take him out.
Just as I was about to give up hope, Reaper finally spoke. “You know I can’t let this slide, right?” His voice was calm, almost deceptively so, but I could see the anger burning in his eyes. “You crossed a line, Massacre. There will be consequences.”
My heart sank as I realized that my fate was sealed.
Whatever came next, I would have to face the music for my actions. But I stood tall, ready to accept whatever punishment Reaper deemed fit.
After all, Daniel Scott was dead, and my woman was finally free.
That was all that mattered.
Chapter Thirty-Nine
Amber
“This is bullshit, and you fucking know it!” King shouted at the sheriff as several brothers milled around, waiting for any news. “That motherfucker deserved what he got!”
