“It’s barely four in the morning, asshole,” my brother grumbled. “This better be good.”
“Fuck, that’s early.” I cringed, shaking my head, then added, “Why are you awake this early?”
“I wasn’t,” he growled.
“Well, since you’re up. I need a favor.”
“Of course you do,” my brother yawned. “What did you do now? You know Reaper is gonna be pissed if you got arrested again.”
“That wasn’t my fault. I’m innocent.”
“As yellow snow,” Reggie deadpanned.
“Look,” I huffed. “Are you going to help me or not?”
Groaning, my brother muttered, “Fine. What do you need?”
“A small distraction.”
“How small? Vegas small or Texas small?”
I cringed, thinking about the shit that went down in Texas. “Not Texas.”
“One small Vegas distraction coming up.”
“You’re the best, little brother.”
“Yeah, yeah. Put it in writing,” he grumbled before hanging up.
Grabbing the hairdryer, I started whistling as I dried my hair, when moments later, I heard the fire alarms go off in the clubhouse.
Seconds later, total pandemonium.
Smiling, I turned off the dryer, and took a good long look at my face before opening the bathroom door to find the bedroom completely empty. “Thank you, Reggie.”
Stepping outside the clubhouse, I hid my smirk as King and Cash shouted orders, sending brothers scattering off. Women, still dressed in their pajamas, looked tired and thoroughly put out as they tried to wrangle Charlie, Jackass’ daughter who chased Danika around the courtyard. And when the Diamond Creek Fire Department showed up, I damn near made it to safety until I spotted my woman ripping into that fucknut Casanova. Glaring at the soon-to-be-dead motherfucker, I pushed my way through the crowd, when I distinctly heard someone say.
“Fuck. Not again.”
“What the fuck was he doing in your room?”
“How is that any of your business?”
“He’s not good enough for you.”
“That isn’t your decision!” Amber glared at the fucker as she pointed that sharp nail of hers into his bare chest. Didn’t that motherfucker own clothes? “Look, Rome, you and C.C. are two of my favorite people. You gave me something I thought I would never have. And I love you for that. But this is my life. You have your own woman to worry about.”
“I was just trying to protect you!”
“From what?!” my woman screeched. “He would never hurt me. All he’s ever done is protect me.”
“It’s because of his club that you were in trouble in the first place. He doesn’t deserve you, Amber. You belong here. With the Silver Shadows.”
“You know that’s not true, Romeo.”
I didn’t wait for an invitation. My boots hammered the pavement as I closed the distance, fists curled and jaw clenched. The Casanova motherfucker squared his shoulders at my approach, his posture all swagger and bravado, but his eyes flickered with doubt as Amber stood her ground, cheeks flushed and eyes blazing as she ripped him a new asshole.
“Enough,” I growled, barely keeping my temper leashed. “Whatever you think you’re doing, it ends now.”
