“Gracias, thank you,” he says over and over with the sound of tears in his voice.
I hand the phone to Zane, who talks to him about using his tailor’s shop for future missions. He’ll pay him to rent it.
He hangs up a few minutes later.
Lying back in Zane’s arms, I run my hand over the silky smoothness of his head and down the back of his thick neck.
Zane’s eyes are slate gray when he looks down at me. “You feel good in my arms.”
“You know, there was only one thing wrong with our date,” I muse.
He raises a single eyebrow. “Only one?”
“I didn’t get a kiss,” I reflect. “Such a shame. I really, really wanted one.”
Pouty lips capture mine. Shifting in his lap, I pull him in tighter, wanting to feel his big body wrapped around mine. Arms come around me and hold me tight while the kiss obliterates every thought in my brain.
He pulls back and ends the kiss. When I reach for him, he captures my hands. “We have all the time in the world. I’m enjoying this slow burn.”
“Me too.” I wink. “I think.”
He stands straight up with me in his arms. “Besides, we’re all feeling a little anxious today, especially when you’re out of our sight. Let’s go find the others.”
I’ve been feeling the same way about them and Gabriel, so I nod.
When we get to the living room, everyone’s lounging around. Zane sets me down between Raider and Cruz and grabs the recliner.
I look from Cruz to Raider, and I hear Henley telling me to be transparent and communicate. Even when it’s delicate situations like threesomes. The thought of spending the night with these two men has me squirming.
My eyes wander to Sterling and Zane. I wonder if all four of them would be up for a group night.
Maybe after we’ve been together a while, I muse. Zane and I aren’t even to that stage yet.
The fact that I can even think about the future is a miracle. I never expected to walk away from Mexico. Yet, here I am, with an adorable nephew and four incredible men who will fight for our future. My family. The one I’ve been missing for such a long time. I’m slowly finding my own peace and coming to terms with the person I am now. Light and dark. Someone who matches them in every way.
Almost four years ago, my sister disappeared. For a long time, I couldn’t picture her at peace, but I feel it now. I think she found peace when I found Gabriel. Maybe she wasn’t sticking around because of her death, but to help me find the son she loved so much.
EPILOGUE
QUINN
Six months later…
With a groan of exhaustion, I shut the door to the warehouse. All one hundred and seventeen women have found a way forward, either by returning home or finding a new one.
The young girl from the van, Ana, went home to her family. Still angry and confused, but alive.
Over the last couple of months, I’ve started to work with Zane to learn how to filter the requests that come in from all over the world. People pleading with the foundation to rescue them. It’s been tough work, sifting through the information, picking out different details that raise a red flag or present a potential danger to our team.
Our team. It feels so good to say it. A month ago, we rescued a young scientist who had found a new cure for a specific type of blood cancer. His government wanted to sell it to the highest bidder, but he wanted to give it to the world.
Not only were we able to get him out, but Henley helped him develop the solution by putting him in touch with the right people and sponsoring the development with her company. The complete remission numbers are significantly higher than previous treatments, indicating a higher number of cured people in the future.
Zane padlocks the door and tugs me into his side. “It will be nice not to have to come to the warehouse every day.”
“It will give us more time to spend on the foundation and together. All of us. It seems like we’ve all been spread thin the last few weeks,” I remark.
A yawn catches me off guard.
