I hit send just before realizing that what I’d texted was probably the worst thing I could have told my brother if I ever wanted to be free of all these stupidly attractive men.

CHAPTER 6

CHLOE

My day went normally—untillunch.

The cafeteria had salmon and asparagus, which was great because it meant that I was meeting my goal of being healthy. Obviously as a reward, I loaded up the waffle maker and topped my second-breakfast with whipped cream, sprinkles, m&ms and those little cookie crumbles—slathering on chocolate syrup until only thin strips of waffle peeked through.

I brought my humble lunch to a shady spot outside. The sky was bright blue. Sunny with a light breeze. And best of all, it was quiet. The first bite was pure bliss. The salmon was lightly seared with just a hint of citrus. I was all alone, and there was no one and nothing stopping me from enjoying my—

“Hello there, darling.” A low voice drawled.

An alpha was staring down at me. He was attractive.

Why did all these fucking men have to be so damn hot? It was starting to get annoying.

Buttery blond hair, tossed about like he’d gone for a leisurely sail on his pleasure ship before arriving on land to talk to the common folk. A jawline sharp enough to cut a lady’s panties straight off. Eyes that were obnoxiously blue, shimmering like rays of light as they pierced through ocean waves. Deep enough to make me want to jump right in.

Wait, no—I did not want to dive into anything. I had a test to study for. I had online classes. More importantly, I had my lunch to devote all my love and focus on.

I had a huge bite of salmon in my mouth. I couldn’t say anything to stop him from sitting down at the table across from me.

I swallowed down my salmon and gulped down water to clear my throat. I was about to tell him off when I was hit by his scent.

Chocolate raspberry.

But not just any chocolate raspberry.

Dark velvety chocolate, his rich and smooth scent wrapped all around me. Decadent and luxurious. Pierced through with a burst of tart raspberry, so sweet and luscious it practically had me moaning.

His scent was pouring through every inch of me. Flooding me until I was drowning.

Yes… Goddamn. I would drown for you.

It had me licking my lips in a way that had nothing to do with finishing my lunch.

Wait. Wait.

Fuck, what was happening?

I did not lick at the scent of alphas, no matter how deliciousthisone happened to smell.

Oh, no. Was this a…

I stared into the eyes of the alpha. He was staring at me wide eyed, with his nostrils flared, and his jaw dropped. I could tell from the dazed look in his eyes that he was sensing this too. He wasn’t just any random hot guy. He was myscent match.

I cleared my throat.

“Right then. This interview is over.”

I grabbed my phone, ready to text my brother. Let himknow that I had found someone perfect, and that he should have the guy join ASAP.

I got to my feet, then stared longingly at the table, biting my lip at the sight of my full plate of food. My immediate getaway meant that I’d have to leave it all behind. It might even be more polite to throw it out.

A not so small part of me was devastated at the thought of having to throw away my delicious lunch after just one measly bite.

“Darling, what are you doing?”
