I leaned down and kissed her.
The moment that my mouth touched hers, it felt as though every inch of my skin was on fire. It was so good, so impossibly good.
Chloe kissed me back, moving her luscious lips against mine, creating a soft friction that was out of this world. Itightened my arms around her. I wanted to freeze this moment and live in it forever. Sultry vanilla was thick in the air, sweet and creamy and burrowing into me, sinking through my pores and igniting my blood.
Once we broke apart, Chloe was looking up at me with a hint of a smile in her eyes. She watched me as if the two of us had just shared a brilliant secret.
“Shouldn’t you, I don’t know, go after him?” She nodded toward the drainage hole.
“Can’t fit down the pipe.”
“That’s too bad.”
“Yeah.”
I nodded, with a very serious expression on my face. Though I felt like everything was in a daze. Everything was so perfect it didn’t even feel real. What was I talking about? Something about an octopus?
Chloe stood up on her tiptoes and kissed me again.
CHAPTER 14
KAIN
“Your date went well?”Sabien asked. He was perched on the counter, lounging against the kitchen cabinets, knobs and everything, though there was no way that leaning like that was actually comfortable.
All I could think about was Chloe’s lips. They were the lips of a siren, drawing me in. Impossibly soft, she was silk against my mouth. What wouldn’t I give for another taste? They were the most delicious, the most dangerous lips in the world.
I nodded in reply, blissed out.
It really went well. There was no arguing that. At the start of the date, Chloe had been on the cusp of rejecting our pack. I’d left Chloe with stars in her eyes and a promise to see us again.
Sabien nodded in approval. “Where did you take her?”
“The Aquarium.” I turned to my brother, ready to give him the good news, how Chloe had a fantastic time. That she wanted to see more of us.
But I stopped when I saw Sabien’s expression like he was choking on a lemon.
“You brought her to see fish? Seriously?”
“I wanted to take her somewhere fun.”
“So you took her to see fucking fish swimming around?” Sabien ran his hands through his hair, like I’d told him that his favorite burger joint had finally gotten condemned. “You do understand that we want to impress this woman? What about Chloe suggests that she would like to see your swimmy little friends?”
Crossing my arms, I glared at my brother. “What the hell is your problem? You are literally yelling at me about fish right now!”
“I am not going to let this pack lose our scent match because of your fish-kink.”
“It’s not a fucking kink.”
“Out of the three of us, I thought that you were supposed to be the smart one.” Sabien groaned, like he actually thought that me taking Chloe out to the aquarium was the worst thing in the world. I wasn’t even going to ask him where he’d take our scent match. Sabien thought that K.N.O.B.B.s burgers were fine dining. “Who the hell made you pack lead?”
Normally, I would remind him that all the guys in the pack did. No one else could be bothered to take the lead. Their exact words were that there was no way in hell that they would put up with all that bureaucratic paperwork nonsense, and now that was my job.
Instead, I grabbed the paper towels off the dispenser and chucked it at his stupid head.
Whatever.
Me and my swimmy little friends hadn’t done bad at all, considering I’d ended the date with a kiss. I’d like to see my brother’s dumb ass do better.
