Page 28 of Hope After Loss
Morris looks from side to side and over both shoulders. “Are you talking to me?”
“Yep. You want to duet with me?”
“He’ll have them bleeding from the ears,” I tease.
Brandee sticks her hand in my face. “Don’t listen to him. I’ll make you sound good. Trust me.”
“‘Picture.’ Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow,” Morris says.
“Done!”
Brandee writes the selection down and hands it off.
“This should be good,” I mumble under my breath.
Anna catches my eye and smiles.
Fuck, she’s stunning.
Why am I just now noticing?
Anna
Brandee wrangles Morris into singing several songs with her, and the more the two of them drink, the funnier the renditions become.
They are currently lending their talent to “Shallow” by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
“Yikes,” Weston utters.
“They’re having fun. Everyone is too drunk to care,” I say.
“Speaking of which … two more, Sherry,” he says as he raises two fingers in the air.
“I can’t,” I start to say.
“Why not? I’ll make sure you get home okay.”
I lean toward him and whisper, “I have to work in the morning, and my boss is kind of a ballbuster.”
He grins. “I bet he’ll let you slide this once.”
I sit back up. “I also have an infant to care for, and she likes to wake her momma up early.”
“What does that have to do with it?”
“I’m a lightweight, Mr. Tuttle. One more drink, and Brandee might have to carry me to bed.”
He raises an eyebrow, and the corner of his mouth quirks up into a sexy grin.
I can feel my cheeks getting warm.
Stop it.
“Get your mind out of the gutter,” I quip.
He chuckles.
The waitress places the two bottles in front of us, and he nudges one of them over to where Brandee was seated.
