“I don’t think so,” I said. “I don’t need a guest room. I’m sleeping with Miles.” Miles hadn’t responded. Instead, he continued to stare at me, red-faced. It was the look of staunch horror on his expression that caused my anxiety to fade completely.
He was scared of me.
Mentally rolling my eyes, I crossed the room, grabbing his arm. “Let’s go.”
“You’re serious?” Miles squeaked. “Butwhy?”
“Because I’m tired,” I said, tugging him to his feet. “Let’s go.”
Chapter Twenty
Bianca
Proposal
I shouldn’t have worried about sleeping with Miles. Outside of not having an aggressive bone in his body, there was no doubt he was trying to disgust me.
To put it nicely, Miles was the worst roommate I’d ever had.
Yes, the way he flustered about his room, trying to kick dirty clothes under his bed, had been adorable—at first. But trying to sleep while knowing there had to be four full loads of laundry stuffed under the box spring had made my skin itch.
He played sports. So much sweat had soaked into those clothes. I knew there was research out there stating that male pheromones were meant to appeal to a woman’s amorous state.
But it didn’t work.
By the time morning came around, snuggling was the furthest thing from my mind. And it would have been impossible to curl up next to him, even if I wanted. Miles had pressed himself to the other side of the bed, against the wall, and didn’t even so much as allow his feet to touch me the whole night.
It was offensive, actually.
What was his deal? Not long ago, he’d been dragging me around by the front of the jacket he’d lent me. Now he seemed to think I had cooties.
Men.
However, his intentions were of no consequence. And outside of a quiet breakfast, he hadn’t been around the entire day. Nor had anyone else.
Because of them, I’d been forced to spend my time all alone in Damen’s living room as I readThe Hobbit. How was that for welcoming?
Well, Finn was here, too. He was clicking away on his computer, clearly watching me from time to time. But he didn’t count as decent companionship.
“Are you thinking something mean about me?” he asked, pausing his movements over the keys.
“No.” How the heck did he know what I was thinking?
He sighed. “You’re going to have to talk to me sometime.”
Since he wasn’t in danger of being put to death, at least not any time soon, my sympathies toward him had vanished. “No, I don’t.”
“Bianca.” Brayden peeked into the room with a slight smile. “Sorry, I had some things to take care of. But I’m ready for you now.”
“Huh?” I blinked at the curly-haired man. What was he talking about?
“Finn was supposed to tell you. I’ll be going over some of your abilities with you today.” Brayden’s gaze flickered to Finn, who didn’t even have the decency to look ashamed. “Did he not mention it?”
“No.” I frowned at Finn. How could he do this to me? He knew I hated surprises. “What lesson?”
Finn smoothly returned his attention to his laptop. “This is your own doing. If you were talking to me, I could have told you.”
I growled under my breath, my fingernails digging into my palms.
