Chapter fourteen

Broma

I mmediately upon boarding the ship and being greeted by the Commander, I knew.

It was so obvious with the way he glowed and the smell about him.

He was utterly satiated, having bathed in the juices of his mating.

Was this what she smelled like mixed with another mate?

I sniffed the air, and my nose wrinkled.

Was this jealousy?

It was an unusual feeling, considering I had accepted when I boarded that it would have been a possibility that she had found someone.

I should be relieved that who she chose was not their Chief of Security; that would have ended any negotiations I could have made for her.

Why was the second to the king of Necias Prime hiding out as the Chief?

I'd have to hold off on my curiosity for now.

My request to see Violet immediately was denied, and I stood across from Commander Roe-el, awaiting her arrival for a shared meal.

All of my hopes were resting on her recognizing me, even if she'd never seen my eyes.

I made sure that my robes were cut so the sleeves would show off my scars, particularly that she could see the one I saved from our first meeting, and the bare space at my shoulder that I expected her to fill.

Commander Roe-el grumbled some pleasantries he didn't prefer to say but wished to express his disinterest in my presence all the same. "And you’re the commissioner of what clan on AsunGor?"

I smiled at him and replied graciously, "The whole of AsunGor."

"You don't look female to me," he jibbed, obviously referring to his knowledge of my mother being the Commissioner of AsunGor.

I ignored his disregard for my title, unbelieving of my status. He would hear the stories of my accomplishments in time. "I suppose we have some things to discuss before she arrives."

"Humans do not track the time of sustenance at the usual universal star rotations," he agreed with the unusual lateness of the females to greeting us.

I was fairly certain this wasn't a fault of the humans, but of his delivery of the information.

It didn't serve a purpose to point this out to him other than being petty, so I continued without the interjection.

"In my time since last we spoke, I've been informed that you've claimed my delegate, exposing her to most of your tribe.

Honored as I am that for your species it is a gesture of great respect—and shows how valuable you deem her worth—I ask that you refrain from showing any more signs of honor towards her.

She is to be Delegate of Estate on the planet of AsunGor.

As such, she is not to be touched by anyone outside of her delegation, such as a commissioner.

You understand," I told him tightly through clenched teeth.

It was difficult to keep my wits about me, knowing that it was this male that stood between me and my mate.

Based on his stance on the other side of the table of untouched food, I knew he had no intentions of letting any other male near her.

Necia warriors may love to show off their mates, but they were not ones to share after bonding.

A sudden realization struck me as I watched how tense he was.

He was not fully mated to her yet. He couldn't be, or he'd be happy to show me his mate and flaunt how he can give her everything she needs.

Including his cock right before my eyes.

He'd make me watch as he fucked her, just so he could taunt me with his victory.

My smile grew larger. She hasn't accepted him yet.

And I had no problems with her having her fun with a highly ranked warrior.

If anything, her attachment to him only proves that she is perfect for being an AsunGor Delegate of Estate.

Perhaps I could bond with this male and show him I only mean to bring our mate happiness.

There is no reason we couldn't be part of the same delegation as long as he chose to step down as Commander.

"You must have her permission," he gritted back, "And as far as I can tell, she hasn't given it to you."

"I think there's a misunderstanding, Commander," I assured him, now more confident in my position to bargain with him.

"I was already given permission when she signed the exchange contract.

It was clearly marked as a permanent placement, as well as explained in detail in our contract what it meant to be an AsunGor Delegate. "

Commander Roe-el slammed his fist on the table, fuming with rage. "You will respect her decision, whether it agrees with your contract or not!"

In that, we agreed. I laughed at how serious he was about making sure I abided by Violet's wishes, when this whole meeting was to set the stage so that she could truly have that option of finishing what we started on Trillume together.

She would come with me. I knew it in my ormete as they warmed pleasantly ever since I arrived aboard the vessel. She was here.

I needed to make sure that this warrior wouldn't keep her against her will; that my contract gave her the ability to leave him.

"I have read the contract in detail, Commander. I have the permission of the Trillume Council and will provide for her—in every way. Emotionally and physically. Or did you think humans were simple creatures that you can fuck, and that was all there was to it?"

It was no secret that many necia warriors saw humans as pets, and I could not have the future Delegate of AsunGor, my mate, be disrespected as such.

"I know what necia warriors think of humans, Commander.

" I couldn't contain my vitriol about the subject of anyone thinking about my mate in this way, "Pets.

" I practically seethed before composing myself as my mother had taught me to in all diplomatic endeavors.

"Fragile creatures, deserving of your protection, but not your honor or respect. You think Violet will choose you?"

He returned my calculating stare with one of cold resolve that was capable of frightening most males, but the more pissed he was, the more I knew I'd hit a nerve with him. That there was a truth he couldn't deny of himself.

I continued as his fist clenched at the table of our cold food.

"Can you honestly say you cared enough to want more than slaking your cock's needs?

Honestly, Commander..." I clucked my tongue in disappointment at the way his shoulders sagged despite the full display of his territorial epul spikes.

"I thought you rose the ranks with intelligence, not brawn. "

He was silent.

And that was telling enough.

"Good evening, Commander," a seductive voice called from the door.

She was dressed in a gauzy, see-through gown that showed off everything I never got to see during our first encounter, and she was something much more fierce than I had anticipated.

Her fiery hair was braided around her crown, practically matching the way the necia warrior had his own epul spikes protruding from his forehead and down his neck.

She was stunning, and on full display for both of us.

This one action changed my whole perspective.

She was wearing a mating robe. Most unGor would not know what they were looking at, but it was my job to know these things.

I had to accept that Commander Roe-el was a package deal to have her as my mate.

"Who's the plus one?" she was narrowing her eyes at me. I was the intruder to her, and not an ounce of recognition was in those eyes for what we shared together. "Mier-Lo said you wanted to discuss my engagement..."

"To me," I corrected her and cleared my throat at the implications of what her original intentions were. I had to remain diplomatic. I had to remain calm. I could fix this. I had to fix this.

"You are stunning this evening, Violet," I said with a formal bow before introducing myself officially.

"I am Commissioner Broma of AsunGor, with whom you've contracted an engagement my people call delegation.

To humans, I believe it is correctly termed as marriage.

" I lifted my hand to her as I didn't think she'd appreciate being offered my ormete when her first mate of choice watched us.

I had yet to come to a bonding agreement with either of them, and I was most assuredly the third wheel at this point.

This was not optimal.

She denied me the honor of touching her own hand, and I watched on as she paced the table in annoyance.

"Oh, fuck," she groaned. "Beth mentioned something about how serious it was, but I thought she was talking about being too hasty to leave on the next shuttle outta there.

Read the fine print she begged me, but honestly, Bro-whatever, as nice of an offer as that sounds.

.. I didn't read a single word of my contract.

I thought all contracts were the same. You know, typical stuff like one-year terms, expenses covered, stipends, and all that. I didn't sign up for marriage."

Commander Roe-el growled like that was an affront to him while she wore the ceremonial robes of his tribe. She folded her arms over her chest, ignoring the outburst, and he seemed to understand that she was not discussing the lack of interest in him, but of myself.

He used my own words against me as he said with pride and mocking, "It seems there has been a misunderstanding, and Violet does not accept your contract of delegation. As you agreed, Commissioner, you will not take her against her will. She must willingly give permission to depart with you."

I nodded, but I had to know for certain she understood AsunGor did not have an issue with her keeping her necia mate if it brought her happiness.
