Chapter twenty-four
Alex
When
I
pull
into
the office parking lot, I can see that everyone is already there. Fuck, I am about to get my ass chewed out for being late.
"García, so glad you can finally join us. Want to come tell me why the fuck you are late?" Gunny nods his head to his office... Well, this is about to be fun.
I walk into his office and close the door behind me.
When I turn to look at him, he is sitting down, elbows on the desk, with his fingers laced together.
His brown hair is slicked back in his normal thunderbird hairstyle.
I swear the guy was born in the wrong era. His brown eyes look me up and down.
"Well, get on with it." He gestures for me to sit with his hands.
"I found out one of my girlfriends is pregnant last night.
And this morning, my other girlfriend made coffee, and she threw up from the smell.
Well, because of all of that, we ended up having an emotional bonding moment, since my other girlfriend just went through a miscarriage from her previous relationship.
So it was basically me in the middle of two emotional women this morning.
" I look at him with a questioning look.
Waiting for the judgment, and I swear his brain glitched out.
"Wait a fucking minute…You have two girlfriends? How the fuck do you manage that? How the fuck did you even get two girls to like you, let alone date you?" He is laughing, thank god. My nerves can settle just a little.
"Well Gunny, that's a long as story, but basically, one of my girlfriends is the cop that arrested Smith that night at the bar, I went to the station to wait for her to get off to take her on a date, and then after the date, we saw my other girlfriend with her fiancé at the time getting in an argument and he kicked her into a brick building.
We stopped to help her, and I ended up staying at the hospital with her that weekend, and that was that.
" This made his bushy brown eyebrow raise at me.
"Wow. They do say you find love in the weirdest places. I guess that must be fucking true in your case. Maybe my best friend needs to get arrested for me to find the love of my life." I raise my eyebrow back at Gunny. This dude is something else, I swear.
"Well, since I am in the office.” I can hear my voice crack from the nerves running through my veins. “My reenlistment is coming up." I look up from my hands. I don't know how to say this to him.
"Your point?" I swear this man is bipolar. One minute, he is talking about finding the love of his life; the next, he is irritated with me.
"My point is, I won't be re-enlisting. I need to start getting my stuff in order to be discharged.
Now that I have a baby on the way and two women at home, I don't think staying enlisted is the right choice for me.
" I look up from my hands. I haven't stopped fidgeting this whole time.
I have not been looking forward to this conversation at all.
"I don't blame you, García, you've got a lot going on. Do you have an idea of what you want to do in the civilian world?" He is writing my name in a notepad, probably to give it to personnel so they can prepare my discharge paperwork and classes.
"I think I am going to try to take over my family business so my grandfather can rest in peace.
" This makes his eyes go big. He knows I hate my grandfather, he doesn't know why, but they know that my grandfather is the reason I go by only García and not the whole ass last name that is on my nameplate of my uniform. I fucking hate going by Lopez García.
Gunny stands up from his desk and stretches out his hand to me. "Well, I wish you nothing but the best of luck on your adventure."
"Thank you so much, Gunny; maybe I'll see you around." I shake his hand and leave his office.
Now, when I get home, I have to let the girls know I'm getting out, so we can find out what's going to happen next.
