Page 90 of Hard Rock Love
A sudden thought jumped into my head.
I think I—
The words almost left my mouth.
I think I’m—
I bit my tongue to keep from saying them.
I think I’m in love with you.
My whole body buzzed as the L word swirled around in my head before flowing like liquid to my chest, solidifying and encasing my entire heart.
I felt it with everything I had in my being. It hadn’t just been a random thought.
I stared into bright green eyes as my mind and my heart both agreed with each other.
I really had fallen in love with Seth Powers.
I wanted to shout the words at the top of my lungs, but for some reason, I halted.
It wasn’t that I doubted my feelings. Once the idea settled, it seemed as obvious as anything.
I loved Seth.
But did he love me back?
I didn’t know the answer to that question. Sure, we had fun together, and I knew he cared about me deeply, but was that all? It would be the most awful thing in the world to confess my feelings to him, only to have him not say it back. It would destroy me.
I nodded slowly.
“I’ll tell my sister,” I said. “I’ll ask her to spend the evening at home with me some night this week and I’ll talk to her.”
Seth placed a kiss on my lips. “Thank you.”
“It’s exciting, the thought of following around a rock band,” I said, trying to distract myself from my amorous thoughts. “But wouldn’t I get in the way?”
“Maybe we can find something for you to do.” His eyes lit up. “It can be a chance for you to try out some careers. You can tag along with the photographer, or our social media people. Maybe see how the tour managers do things, or work with the PR guys. There’s lots of careers in music that aren’t just performing.”
None of those appealed to me.
“I know I’ve always been envious of my sister,” I started. “But I don’t necessarily want to work in the music industry. I’m jealous of her passion and drive, jealous that she’s found her calling in life.”
“Everly knows exactly what she wants to do and she goes for it,” Seth agreed.
“I wish I had something that wasmine,” I explained. “I don’t want to live Everly’s life. I want to live my life. I just don’t know what that kind of life should be. It can’t be all about grades. That feels so hollow.”
Seth tugged me to his side and rested his chin on my head.
“There’s nothing wrong with taking your time to find yourself,” he said.
“You know how you talked about the feeling you get when you walk on stage?” I asked. “I want that.”
“You want thousands of fans cheering your name and bursting into tears over you?” he teased.
“I want to know I’m doing the thing I was born to do,” I said. “I want to find my place in the world.”
“You will,” Seth said confidently. He ducked his head down and tipped my chin up, his green eyes soft and loving. “And I’ll be by your side no matter what you choose.”
