A second later he was back and helping Carter into the sweats. They were way too big on him, and they had to roll them at the waist. "Okay, we're going to go dump this stuff, then get you back to the motel. Once there, we'll sneak in the side door closest to our room. Keep your head down and walk fast in case we run into anyone. We're just two guys out drinking tonight."
Carter nodded as Xander put him in the passenger seat. Why was he so confused? So weak? It didn't make sense. He tried to clear his head again, but it was like he was in a fog.
He hadn't even realized the car was moving, but suddenly they were outside an old diner. He watched as Xander jumped out with the bag and dropped it in a large dumpster behind the building.
When he got back in, Xander smiled. "Not as good as a lake, but it will do. We're far enough away, no one will be looking." He put the car in gear and kept driving.
Minutes later, they were at the motel, and Xander was leading him to a side door. With a swipe of their room key, he had them inside, then it was just a short walk down the hallway to their room.
Once inside, Xander blew out a long breath. "It's done. We need to call the police and have them get the girls, but I didn't dare call until I got you out of there." Xander reached for a burner phone and dialed.
Carter slumped down on the bed, sitting with his head between his knees as he tried to fight off the nausea. He wasn't even sure what Xander was saying on the phone.
"I'll need to dump this phone first thing in the morning," Xander said beside him.
Carter looked up, and that was when it hit him. He couldn't hold it back anymore. He made a fast dash to the bathroom, barely falling to his knees in front of the toilet before he started vomiting.
"It's okay. This is normal. Almost all of us got sick after our first kill. Get it out." Xander was beside him for a moment. "I'll be right outside the door if you need me."
He couldn't respond as he started to vomit again. He was thankful Xander left him alone. He was ashamed at how weak he was. If Xander hadn't been there… He shook his head at the thought, then wished he hadn't as he vomited again.
He thought he'd feel better after killing Lyle, but now he only felt worse.
