He laughed. “Maybe you can’t say it, but I understand. That kind of support is invaluable.” He paused. “Are you happy with your progress so far?”
I thought about the question, then nodded. “Part of me wants to initiate more, but the fear creeps back in.”
“I’m going to suggest following that desire for more, at least a little bit. Not every time, but fight the fear. Get those good experiences.”
I swallowed. “Ok.”
He nodded. “Switching gears. How are you feeling about your pregnancy? Any concerns that we need to address?”
I smiled, looked down, and rested my fingers on my stomach. “Not right now. I’m just happy to know my babies are in there.”
“Babies? That’s new information.”
My cheeks heated. “My first sonogram was last week. I’m having twins.”
“Congratulations. I remember you mentioning you wanted multiple.”
“Thank you.”
He paused. “Have you told your papa yet?”
I bit my lip. “Not yet. I want to, but…”
“You don’t want your sister knowing,” he concluded.
“Yeah.”
“It’s a difficult situation, but you mentioned wanting him to know. You’ve said you’re low-contact with him because of her and also indicated that your relationship with him is fine when she’s not around. Is there a way to let him know how important it is to you that she does not know?”
I sighed. “That’s the problem. I know he’ll be excited and want to talk about it. I want him to be excited, and it doesn’t feel fair to limit who he can celebrate with.”
“It might not feel fair, but you have the right to protect your peace. If you want him to know, then you’ll need to tell him that you don’t want him sharing that with her.”
“I know…”
He shifted in his seat. “Today’s session is almost over. I think what I’d like to address next time is how you’ll talk to your papa. I’d like you to come up with what you want to say, and we can work on a script for you to follow. I’ve only been working with you for a few months, but I’ve noticed you’re more confident when you have a plan. I’d like to get you that plan.”
I smiled. “I’d like that.”
“Good.”
A small chime sounded from his desk.
“That’s our time for today,” he stated. “Anything else you’d like for me to think about before next time?”
I shook my head. “Not that I can think of.”
He smiled. “Good. I’ll see you next week.”
“Next week,” I echoed as I stood.
He stood, shook my hand, then followed me to the door.
I waved to his receptionist as I headed out to my car.
My mates were waiting for me at home, and Beck had teased that a new game had arrived.
I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my evening.
