It’s still hard to believe this is all real, that this is my life now and I’m not in a coma living all this in some wild dream.

The limo pulls up outside the church and Frankie helps my grandma climb out.

“We’ll see you inside,” he says, taking her arm.

“Buena suerte, mi amor4.”

Once they are inside, my mom pinches my arm. “Are you ready?”

“More than ready.” I can’t wait to marry this man. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.

Excited chatter bubbles around us as we slide out of the car and my mom takes my hand.

She passes me my bouquet of fake flowers – I’m taking no chances with a runny nose today – and we climb the steps to the church.

It’s bright out here in the sunshine so I struggle to see inside the church, but as my eyes adjust, I see the seats are packed full of all the people we love most in our lives. My cousins and aunts and uncles, Hunter’s bandmates and his brothers and sisters. Seems opening his heart to love has opened up my big viking of a mate in so many other ways too. His family have come to stay with us in LA since Hunter’s father passed; they’ve watched him perform and I’ve had the opportunity to use my passport, visiting his brother in Australia and his sister in Germany.

The music starts and there at the other end of the aisle I watch Hunter turn and meet my eye. He quirks his eyebrow at me with a grin. He didn’t know I’d picked this song. I wanted it to be a surprise. But of course I’d choose this. His song. The one he recorded with the band after we got together. The song about the girl with the big heart and the big ass.

He says it’s not about me, but I’m not buying that for one second.

I laugh, smiling so wide my cheeks hurt as his deep, melodic voice fills the church. Then I stroll down the aisle, gripping my mom’s arm, my eyes never leaving my mate’s face and my ass swaying in time with his music.

Big ass, big heart, big happy ever after heading right his way.
