TASHA
" Y ou made us late." I scolded Trevor.
“No, I didn't. You weren't even dressed." Trevor said.
"Because you kept trying to take my clothes off!
I sent him a look to which he shrugged. "It's not my fault you look good in everything."
I rolled my eyes at Trevor's comment, but a smile tugged at my lips. He really was the reason we were late for our date night but comments like that made it hard for me to be upset. Not that I could be when I had two earth-shattering orgasms before we left.
"You're insatiable."
"And you love it." Leaning down, Trevor kissed the top of my head. The action made my heart skip a beat. We'd been together for four months, and every time he did something like that, it filled my stomach with butterflies. There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t fall more in love with this man.
"Yeah, yeah." I shoved him as he opened the door for me to Landon’s rink, Hockey Haven. "You're a chronic flirt. "
"Only with you." Trevor smacked my ass as I walked in front of him. I couldn't fight the grin any longer.
"There you are," Josie called out as we came out by the ice rink. “We thought you two weren't going to show.”
As Trevor went to greet Wyatt, Bryton, and Landon, I made my way over to my girls. Josie, Mila, and Lydia were sharing a grin as I approached. Over the last couple of months, Trevor and I had been known for showing up late because of...reasons. Something our friends teased us about endlessly.
"Blame Trevor," was all I said.
"Uh-huh." Josie just smirked.
"Are you guys ready to lose?" Bryton called out to us as the guys moved toward the benches.
"We are so going to kick their asses," Josie muttered, glaring over at her fiancé.
A week ago, while we were all having dinner together, the guys made a comment about how us girls couldn't win a hockey game against them. Not the smartest thing to say in front of four very independent women. Next thing I knew, we were agreeing to play a small game against the guys. Now here we are about to play a game.
I wasn't hopeful that we would win. I mean, hello, we weren’t the best skaters. Lydia could barely stand up on skates, so going against four professional hockey players... We didn't stand a chance. Even though Landon wasn't in the NHL like the others, he played at university and owned a rink for crying out loud.
So yeah, I wasn't that hopeful we’d win, but I wasn't going to say that out loud. Not with the determined looks on Josie and Mila’s faces. Lydia sent me a wide-eyed look. She tried to get out of doing this, but without her, we'd be down a person. There may have been other motives involved as well .
We all saw how she acted around Landon. We weren’t sure if something happened in Australia, but they'd been keeping their distance ever since. So, Jo has made it her mission to force them together at every opportunity. This being one of them. Didn’t help the bets in Bang Bet Club group chat were getting closer to the timeline people had.
"We got this," I whispered, linking my arm with hers. The look she sent me said otherwise.
When we approached the benches, where Landon already had the skates and sticks ready, I let Lydia take the spot next to Landon. He could help her with the skates. With a smirk in her direction, I went to sit next to my boyfriend.
By the time I sat down and took off my shoes, Trevor already had his skates on and was ready to go. I leaned down to grab my own skate, but before I could, it was yanked out of my reach. I bit my lip as Trevor squatted down in front of me.
My mind flashed back to our first real date when he did the same thing for me. I knew how to lace up my skate, but if he wanted to do it, who was I to say no? Plus, he looked hot kneeling in front of me.
"I'll try and take it easy on you," Trevor said as he lifted my ankle to slide the ice skate on.
"You don't need to take it easy on me." I peered down at him. "If I remember correctly, I out-skated you last time."
"You're cute thinking that." Trevor looked up at me with a smirk. His fingertips stroked the skin of my ankle, trying to distract me.
"Well, when we win, I expect a lot of groveling." I stuck my chin up.
"Hmm." Trevor moved onto my next foot, making quick work of gearing me up. "When we win," he lowered his voice to a whisper, "you'll be the one on their knees." That gleam in his eyes said he fully expected me to lose .
I tried my hardest not to show that his words affected me. Damn him and his sexy ass voice. He knew how to play me like a fiddle. But despite not minding that consequence, I wasn't planning on letting him win. No, he was going to be the one on his knees.
With more determination to succeed, I leaned forward, my hand reaching out to grab his chin. The scruff on his face tickled my fingers. I stopped inches from his lips.
"You're going to look so good on your knees later," I whispered. My lips barely grazed his before pulling back. With a smirk of my own, I twisted on the bench and stood up, leaving Trevor squatting there, staring up at me.
"Good luck, babe." Sending him a wink, I walked off as best as I could in skates. Behind me, I heard him mutter something, making me feel even more smug.
I made my way to the ice, needing a few laps to get used to the skates again. If we had any chance of winning, I was definitely going to need these few minutes on the ice. I was a little shaky at first as I got my footing, but in no time, I was doing a lap around the rink.
By the time I came back around, Josie was also on the ice. Wyatt teaching her to skate has definitely paid off. She looked like a natural. Maybe we had a chance.
"We have to beat them," she said the moment she skated to my side. I was in full agreement. We weren’t going to let the guys win and hold it over us.
"We may have to play a bit dirty."
"How dirty?" Mila came up from behind us. Her skating wasn’t the worst, but she wasn’t that good either. I grinned at her eager tone.
"We’re going up against four huge guys that will easily overpower us." My mind came up with some ideas. "We just need to distract them or play on their love for us. "
"I like where you’re going with this." Mila smirked, rubbing her hands together.
"I have some good ideas." Josie grinned mischievously. My eyes found Lydia as she stumbled onto the ice, holding on to the side of the rink with a death grip. We were going to need all the help we could get.
Not even a second later, all four guys skated onto the ice flawlessly.
Yep, we were royally fucked.
After going over the rules on what we could and couldn’t do, we were ready to play. The guys were definitely taking it easy on us. There would be no shoving or pushing against the boards. In Trevor's words, “We'll gently take the puck from you guys.” His words only added fuel to the fire between us girls.
"Don't hurt yourself, blondie." Landon smirked over at Lydia as she wobbled on her skates. She finally made it out onto the ice without falling, although that was bound to change.
"You worry about yourself over there." Lydia's words held no bite to them, though, not as she struggled to stay upright. The only reason she was on the ice right now was to prove Landon wrong. His taunting about her sitting on the sidelines to watch only made her want to play that much more. I was pretty sure Landon did it on purpose.
"Okay, line up," Bryton called out.
I moved to stand in front of Trevor. He easily towered over me in his skates, but at least he wasn't wearing his hockey gear. He'd be even more intimidating if he was. Hell, he was already intimidating dressed in a pair of jeans and a Toronto Knights long-sleeve shirt. It matched the Knights sweatshirt I was currently wearing, courtesy of Trevor’s closet.
As I stared him down, the others got in position around us. Josie against Wyatt. Mila against Bryton. And Lydia against Landon. The puck was right in front of Josie and Wyatt as we all squared off.
"That cute ass is mine." Trevor grinned.
"That's if you can catch me." I grinned back.
"Oh, I will," he promised.
Determined to beat Trevor, I leaned forward into my stick as Wyatt counted down. As soon as he hit one, everyone lunged forward. I looked away from Trevor, trying to find the puck. Somehow, Josie got it and was skating away from Wyatt.
I pushed off the ice toward her as her fiancé got right on her ass.
"Jo." I gestured for her to pass me the puck. The pass wasn't pretty and it slid right past me, but I managed to snag it before any of the guys could.
While I wasn't the worst skater, I was nowhere near on the same level as the guys. That was made very clear as Bryton skated in front of me, cutting me off. To avoid running into him, I skidded to a stop, sending ice everywhere. In turn, the puck slid right into Bryton's waiting hockey stick.
With ease only he and the others had, he skated toward the net and easily made a goal. Mila and Lydia weren’t close enough to help. Well, shit.
Since the guys scored, it was now our puck. I remembered what Trevor taught me about keeping the puck close so I didn't lose control of it. It was surprisingly hard to keep an eye on the puck and yet look ahead so I didn't run into anyone. Damn, the guys really made this look easy.
I was skating the best I could as Trevor came up beside me. From the corner of my eye, I noticed he was barely pushing off the ice, just casually skating while I was trying my hardest to keep the puck in front of me.
"You good?" I didn't miss the taunting tone in his voice.
"Don't you even start." I pushed off the ice a little harder, hoping to get to the net. It didn't go unnoticed that Trevor was the only one guarding me, the others somewhere behind me. The net was wide open, but it was clear Trevor thought he could easily take the puck from me without much effort.
Well, I was going to show him.
"I’m not doing anything." I didn't have to look at him to know he was smirking.
As I closed in on the net, Trevor got closer, his stick slowly moving in front of mine. Not gonna happen . Before he could take the puck, I slammed to a stop, using my toe pick to move around him. A move I'd seen him do during games.
My move took him by surprise and gave me enough time to bring my hockey stick back and slap the puck into the net. A yell left my lips as I threw my hands up. I made a goal! The girls cheered.
Turning to face Trevor, I sent him a smug grin. "Suck it."
I skated away feeling like a complete badass. It was only one goal, but I managed to score on The Beast aka Trevor Hall.
My goal seemed to hype the girls up as we all lined up together. We'd only been playing for five minutes, but we all were starting to have a little hope we could win.
We had no chance of winning.
Twenty minutes later, the guys made ten goals and we only made three. It was Josie and I leading our team at this point. Mila was too busy holding onto Lydia or trying to distract her boyfriend. Not that it helped much.
Lydia spent more time falling on the ice or clinging to the nearest person. Half the time, it was Landon she kept clutched close to her. So in a way, it helped get Landon out of the way but that left three other professional hockey players to keep up with.
So, the last five minutes Josie and I resorted to extreme measures.
"Tasha."
"Hmm," I hummed against Trevor’s back, my arms wrapped tightly around his waist.
"What are you doing?"
Honestly, I wasn’t even sure at this point. My idea of trying to hold Trevor back as he skated wasn’t working out so well. He was twice my size and skated forward like my hold on him did nothing. I was trying to dig my skates into the ice but it made no difference.
"Stopping you."
Looking to the side, I saw Josie clinging to Wyatt's back as he skated. Her tactic was not working either.
Trevor's stomach flexed under my fingers as he chuckled. "Well, it’s working like a charm."
"Come on. You have to let us score," I pleaded.
"Come take the puck from me then." He taunted.
"You're too big."
"We aren't talking about my dick, Sunshine."
I snorted at his comment. "It's not fair. What happened to taking it easy on us?" I whined.
"We are."
That's how awful we were at hockey .
As I clung to Trevor, he sent the puck to Wyatt, who was also unfazed with Josie on his back. I could do nothing but watch as he sent it into the net once more. 11-3.
"You guys are the worst," I muttered against his back.
"You guys can always call it." His words had me letting him go.
"Never." I shook my head. It wasn’t gonna happen.
"We won't hold it against you." The twinkle in his eye said otherwise. No, the guys would hold this over our heads until the end of time.
"Team meeting!" I called out, narrowing my eyes at my boyfriend. "Just you wait and see."
With another chuckle and a shake of his head, Trevor went over to the guys as I got together with the girls.
"This is going great," Lydia said sarcastically.
Beside me, Josie pulled out her phone, rapidly typing on it.
"What are you doing?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I’m calling in reinforcements." Jo looked at the three of us with a smirk. "Do you two mind sitting out the rest of the game?" she asked Mila and Lydia.
"God, no," Lydia answered immediately.
"My legs are exhausted," Mila added. The two were more than eager to get off the ice.
I looked at my best friend, wondering what she had planned. She sent me a look as her phone pinged with a text. She flashed me what it said. Seeing what was on the screen, I felt my own smirk growing. My best friend was an evil genius.
"We need a bathroom break!" Josie yelled out.
"Calling it quits?" Wyatt yelled back.
"In your dreams!" She shot back.
Mila and Lydia made their way off the ice, clinging to one another. We really didn't think it through having them two on our team, but at least they tried.
As the two of us skated past the guys to get off the ice, they looked at us with smug expressions. They really thought we were done. I couldn’t wait to see their faces in a few minutes.
