Beneath all that glamour and circumstance was a cunning, powerful wolf.
Ally or foe?I wondered.Time will tell.
“We’re going to need guns,” Lorcan said.
I nodded. “Yeah. And a distraction.”
“Yep.” His eyes glittered. “Wanna hunt some zombies with us, little killer?”
Kyra snorted as she slipped into the room. Her thoughts told me she’d been lurking in the hall for the last few minutes, waiting for an opportunity to enter. Lorcan must have sensed her, too. Or maybe he was just asking her out on a date. Who the hell knew?
She twirled a pair of knives in her hands and grinned. “Just tell me where to go.”
“Likewise,” Grey added. “And I don’t need a gun. You all can handle the zombies while I hunt the little riddler.”
I assumedlittle riddlermeantAshlyn.
“I also don’t require weapons,” Cael murmured. “I’ll be using other talents.”
Lorcan shrugged and shadowed off without a word. His mind told me he was raiding the armory. Not sixty seconds later, he reappeared with two of our go-bags. He tossed one to me, which I rifled through to find my holsters and favorite toys.
I was in the middle of adding a bulletproof vest over my sweater when I heard Ivana checking me out from behind.
Like what you see, Omega?I asked, engaging the link unique to our new bond. We hadn’t used it yet, primarily relying on my telepathic and mind-reading abilities instead. But it felt right to engage her like this now. More intimate. More…us.
Yes, I do, Alpha, she murmured back, easily connecting to me via the same link.Very much.
Hmm,I hummed.I’ll remember that later.
Then I nodded at Lorcan. “Let’s go.”
CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
IVANA
Kieran tookin the sight of his disheveled office and shook his head. “What a bloody mess.”
My lips twitched. “It could be worse.”
“Hmm,” he hummed, glancing at the items scattered about the floor before shifting his attention to Granger’s prone form. “You should be resting in our nest.”
I blinked, confused by his words for a split second before Quinn slipped into the room with her hand on her rounding belly. “And you should stop telling me what I should and should not do.”
“I’m an Alpha, darling. It’s who I am.”
Quinn snorted and walked over to me, her lips curling more with each step. It wasn’t until she was right in front of me that I started to understand her smile because she leaned forward and sniffed my neck. “He bit you!”
I arched a teasing brow. “That’s a very strange way to greet someone, Quinn.”
“I’m a wolf. I’m pregnant. Every part of me aches. Give me this, Ivana. Because one day, you will understand. Trust me.” Then she opened her arms and threw them around me in anunexpected hug, all while squealing with excitement. “It worked! I’m so excited that it worked!”
I hugged her back, a bit alarmed by her wild emotions and bizarre behavior. Primarily because I feared she was right and that I would soon be acting just like this—sniffing people at random and spouting strange exclamations. “What worked?” I asked her.
“The mating program!” She released me and spun toward an amused-looking Kieran. “I told you this would work.”
“I’m the one who coaxed Cael into joining,” he drawled.
“Yes, because I suggested they would make a fine couple.”
