Page 21 of Don’t Break My Heart (Secrets of Ravens Hollow #3)

My heart kicks up a beat, and I sit up in a rush. “Then we’re stuck here.”

He runs his hand down the side of my face then over my lips as if he is memorizing every detail of my face. “We will get you out of here as soon as we can, I promise.” He lowers his lips to kiss me.

His phone springs to life, breaking our kiss. I spy Onyx’s number lighting up his screen as he goes to answer.

“I have a new crew on their way; they should arrive in about half an hour. You couldn’t get hold of your men because they are all dead.”

Fuck. I cover my mouth as my scared eyes meet with Romeo’s.

“It’s time to do things our way,” Onyx snarls down the line. He’s furious.

“Agreed. Do whatever you need to,” Romeo says, pulling me in closer again.

“Keep Sloane by your side until you hear from me again.”

“Done.” He disconnects the call from Onyx and immediately dials another number. “Got a job for you. Meet me at Orlando’s villa as soon as you can,” is all he says, then he disconnects the call.

“Who was that?” I ask, trying to keep up with what they are doing.

“Clean-up crew. Someone I know, not one of my brother’s men.

This way we find out the truth as to who was after you tonight.

” His hands move down my shoulders, cupping my tits as his thumbs brush over my nipples.

He has to be kidding me. “Now, Reef was up to the part where he had you up against the tile wall of the shower, with your ass in his hands. Why don’t you finish the story.

” He moves down my body, pushing me back to the bed.

He spreads my legs and buries his head in between them, shoving my panties out of the way before his tongue sweeps through my waiting pussy .

Oh dear God. “Shouldn’t you be watching over me or some shit?” I close my eyes and relax back. What else can I do? This man will stop at nothing.

“I’ll watch over you while I fuck you.” He pulls back from me long enough to tear my panties down my legs. “I’m waiting for the rest of the story.”

“Fuck.”

“Yes, how did he fuck you, sweetheart? Tell me everything.”

When I wake up, Romeo’s heavy arm is suffocating the life out of me. I slip it off my chest, overheating, and go to move out of his bed. Sunlight filters through the room, and its warmth has me sweating like crazy. I have no idea what time it is, but my guess is mid-morning.

It’s then I hear a pained groan. I turn back quickly.

It’s not Romeo at all. I might have fallen asleep beside him, but this is most definitely Orlando.

He has the little scar above his eye and ink on his neck to prove it.

He looks up at me all sleepy, his hair falling over his eyes, in a way that makes him look sexy as hell.

“Sorry, I thought you were your brother. Do you need something for the pain?”

“I’ll be fine.” He wiggles, moving up the bed to sit a bit higher and propping a pillow behind his back, wincing in pain. He’s not okay.

“I’m getting you something,” I snip, knowing I can’t listen to him on this.

He captures my hand before I have a chance to leave. “I’m fine, treasure. All I need is you.”

I move back to the bed and sit beside him. Running a hand through his wavy hair, I stop when I get to the scar I gave him. “Bet you never thought when I hit you across the head with a crowbar that I would be the one to take away your pain,” I say with a little laugh.

He takes my hand with the ring on it, running his finger over the diamond. “Bet you never thought you would end up my wife.”

“But here we are.” I sigh.

“Here we are.” His hand moves to my face, and he runs his finger along my cheek and down over my lips. “I love you, Sloane. I need you to remember that because the next few months are going to be difficult in a way neither of us can imagine while we sit here right now.”

My eyes narrow in on him, his words making me feel instantly uneasy. “Why do I feel like there is a big but coming?”

“No but. I just need you to remember what you mean to me. What I would do to keep you safe.”

“You took a bullet for me; I’ll be eternally grateful.” I half laugh, not liking how deep this conversation has suddenly gotten.

His eyes lock with mine. “I’m serious, treasure.”

“I know.” I press my lips to his in a slow passionate kiss.

When I feel his chest clench in pain, I pull back from him.

“You’re not fine. I’m getting you something for the pain.

” I pull out of his grip before he can stop me this time.

“Nurse Sloane will be back in just a second.” I smirk back at him all sexy like, lifting my silk night dress up to show more of my thigh.

He shakes his head, his eyes blazing with heat. “She better be.”

I scurry out of the room, my heart racing a little faster than I would like this time of the morning. But that’s what he does to me. He’s so intense I find myself flirting with him just to stop from opening up and telling him how I really feel.

I quickly walk up the stairs and into the main living room and kitchen, searching for the pills the doctor gave us for Orlando. I pick up papers on the countertop, but I can’t find them. I turn to leave and run straight into Onyx’s solid chest.

“Shit, Onyx,” I mutter, taking a quick step back from him, my nerves still on edge from last night.

“What are you looking for, trouble? You up to no good?” His eyes roam down my body as he takes me in, just wearing my skimpy nightdress.

I smirk back at him. “No, I was looking for Orlando’s pain meds.”

He raises his brow like he doesn’t one hundred percent believe me. “They should be in his room.”

“Oh. Okay, thanks.” Of course they are. My mind is so fucked right now I couldn’t even think that one through. “You okay, big guy? You look more on edge than normal.” And I know he still has not slept since the nightmare last night.

“House is secure again. Thought you might like to know those men you killed, they were Conti’s men. Not Valentine’s.”

I stare back at him, my heart kicking up a beat. “Shit. How did they get in this place?”

His forehead creases. “That’s what we’re trying to work out.”

I reach up, brushing his stubble with the back of my hand, before I pop up on my toes and kiss his lips.

“Thank you for telling me.” I smile back at him, knowing he could have kept this to himself.

Maybe our conversation in the kitchen is sinking in and he’s learning that trust goes both ways.

“Let me know if you hear anything else. I better get back to the patient.” I move back through the room, and just as I go to take the first step, he calls to me again.

“You did good last night, trouble. We would both be dead if you didn’t think so fast.”

“Thanks, big guy. Maybe later today you will let me watch you while you sleep.” I wink back in his direction .

My world might be upside down, but something shifted for us in the last twenty-four hours. And now I feel like Onyx might have just earned a little more respect for me.
