"Then I have a job for you if you move here to Los Angeles."
"Doing what?"
"Private security."
"That would be awesome. Let me tie up a few things here, and I'll give you a call when I know for sure."
"Perfect."
We hung up, and I drove to my house. Everything seemed to be going the way I wanted finally, but would I still move to California if Erin didn't want to? What if she never came back to be with me as she'd promised? Now that Frank and Saffron were dead, I still wanted to go and have a fresh start. New York had always been my home, but I didn't want to live in a place that was tainted. I didn't want to live near my uncle, either.
When I got to my house, Uncle Marco was there. We needed to hash out what he had done, and I needed to find out if he regretted killing my father, but I wanted nothing to do with him, and I wanted my mother away from him too.
California was looking like the best option for a lot of reasons.
After cracking my neck to release some tension, I opened the front door and walked in. Momma was sitting on the couch, Uncle Marco beside her. He stood and pulled his gun.
"You're that scared of me?" I chuckled.
"I don't know what yous going to do."
"And yet, here you are."
"I'm not going to hide from yous."
Momma stood and came toward me.
"Are you okay?"
She nodded. "I am now."
"Did you threaten her?" I seethed.
"I made sure she knew I came with my piece."
"She's your fucking sister." I pointed to her.
"I'm not sure what she'll do, either."
"I've known for thirty-one years, Marco. If I was going to do something, I would have already," Momma admitted. I stared at Uncle Marco until Momma suggested, "How about we have a civilized discussion over coffee?"
"I can if you can," I stated.
He put his gun away. "Fine."
We walked into the kitchen, and while Momma put on a pot of coffee, Uncle Marco and I sat at the table.
"Why'd you do it?" I questioned, not beating around the bush.
"Yous know why," Uncle Marco answered.
"Do I?"
"Giovanni would have killed me if I didn't kill your father."
"How could you do that to your own sister?" I berated.
"The same reason."
