Not far enough that they couldn't go there and back in less than a day. "Then my place. My mom can get them everything they need."
"Your mom?" Erin asked.
"She knows a lot." Before I could elaborate more, Quinn and Frankie walked back into the room. I grabbed Frankie's gun from the floor and handed it to him. "I think we should get the girls out of here," I suggested.
"Okay," he agreed.
"I'm going to give Erin my address and have her take them to my place once your father gets here. I'll give them the code to the service elevator so they can slip out, and once everything is finished with your father, we can get them help or whatever they need."
"Sounds good." He stuck out his hand at me. "And thank you for being on our side."
I glanced at Erin and then back to Frankie as I took his hand. "Wasn't just for you."
"Ah. Good deal." He clapped me on the back. "Hurry and get them going. I might need you to buzz my father up if he doesn't have his elevator key on him."
"Okay."
Frank would have his keycard on him. I had no doubt.
Each girl went to her room to gather what little belongings she had. They would be staying in their rooms until it was all over with. "I can't believe this is happening," Erin said as she grabbed the books and DVDs I had given her.
"I know, but if Frank is dead, and I'm not the one to do it, we don't need to run."
"Yeah. Do you think Frankie is going to go through with it?"
I shrugged. "I really don't know, but his own mother wants to kill Frank too. Someone in that room"—I pointed toward the main room—"will take him out."
"Unless he strikes first."
"I'm not sure he would. He's coming here thinking his son is dying, and we have Saffron's dead body to deal with."
"Right. I just hope we can finally leave and be done with all of this."
I wrapped her in my arms and kissed the top of her head. "Me too."
After I let her go, I wrote my address on a piece of paper and pulled money out of my wallet for the cab fare to my house.
"The last time I took a taxi …" Erin trailed off.
"Hey." I brought her to me again. "You're not going to be alone. You'll be with the girls. Plus, Frank is about to be a dead man."
"I know."
"Everything will be okay."
She nodded against my chest, and after one final squeeze, I walked back to the living room to wait for Frank.
Frankie and Quinn were waiting in the first sex room, and Jackie was in the main room. I threw a sheet over Saffron's dead body so Jackie didn't have to stare at the dead body of the woman who had kidnapped her daughter.
It didn't take long for the sound of the elevator to roar in the silent room as I waited with Jackie. I stood next to the doors as though I was waiting to help Frank. What was he going to do when he saw the woman he had held captive for eighteen years in the penthouse that her daughter had lived in under the pretenses that Saffron was her mother? Jackie looked as though she was going to pass out at any second, and I hoped that Frankie would come in before anything happened to Zell's mother because I was certain Frank would be pissed.
The elevator dinged, and the doors opened. "Where is he?" Frank barked as he stormed out of the lift.
"Right over here," I responded and before I could gesture, Jackie stood, and their eyes locked.
"Jackie?" Frank asked, sounding confused.
"Hello, Frank."
