I’m so not looking forward to going back to my magic wand to get off.

“You’re probably right,” I tell him. “But… what about the part where people get hurt?”

“The only one getting hurt is Fabio and his family,” he reassures me. “Look, I should have never agreed to marry you off in the first place. I’m so sorry Rosa. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for doing that.”

I don’t have an answer for him. I’m torn between multiple emotions. I don’t know what I want anymore.

There’s tense silence between us for several moments. I finish up my bowl of mousse and reach inside the pastry bag to grab something else.

“Do you love him?” Massimo asks suddenly.

I freeze.

My brother grabs me by the shoulders and makes me look at him. “Rosa. Answer me. Do you love him?”

I stare into my brother’s eyes and tell him: “No. I mean, I don’t know.”

“If you don’t know,” Massimo replies. “Then you don’t. Because if you love someone, you know it through and through.”

“I guess,” I say.

He let’s go of me. “We’ll get through this, Rosa. You’ll see. Someday, maybe you’ll even forgive me.”

I give him a brave smile.

Is he asking my forgiveness for forcing me to marry Fabio? Or for convincing me not to take him back?

Could be both, as far as I’m concerned.

Angela comes in from the beach and gives me a hug. “I’m sorry about what happened.”

“Don’t be,” I tell her.

“Why don’t you join me outside,” she says. “We can work on a song.”

I shake my head. “No. I’m not in the mood for music at the moment.”

“I understand,” she says.

Massimo possessively wraps his arm around her shoulder and she smiles up at him. What a beautiful couple they make. It makes me miss Fabio all the more.

I glance at her baby bump and feel a stab of envy. I’ll never have a baby now. At least not with Fabio.

Maybe he got me pregnant. God I hope not. I dread the thought of raising a child alone.

I start heading toward the main entrance.

“Where are you going?” Massimo asks.

“Got class,” I tell him.

“You’re actually going today, after everything?”

I shrug. “Might as well. Hopefully it will help get my mind off things.”

“Wait, I’ll send two men with you,” he says, breaking away from his wife.

“We’ll talk more later, when you’re back,” Angela says, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze. “Stay safe. Who knows what Fabio will try to do?”
