Page 92 of Daman
Castor nipped at his neck, and Kyo released a low laugh, half-heartedly pushing his lover away. Snores filled the air as Gray fell asleep. He could sleep through anything, it seemed.
“You’re a shitty host, D,” Bellamy said. “You haven’t offered us anything to drink.”
“You helped yourself to my shower. You can help yourself to the kitchen too. So get off your ass and get it your damn self.”
“Ouch.” Bellamy touched his chest. “Your words always sting so deep.”
Daman rolled his eyes.
“I don’t mind brewing us some coffee,” I offered. Daman pressed his weight more against me though, preventing me from moving.
“Nah, it’s okay.” Bellamy pushed to his feet. “Do you have beer? Coffee ain’t gonna cut it.”
I nodded. “I don’t drink, but Nikolai stocked the liquor cabinet before we moved in. There should be beer and vodka.”
“Any ambrosia or absinthe?”
“No.”
“Damn.” He plopped back down onto the love seat. “I forgot you dragons can get wasted without the additives.”
“You can’t?” I asked. It took more for dragons to reach intoxication, but we could get drunk on human liquor.
“Sucks, right?” Castor chimed in. “What I wouldn’t do for a strong drink right now.”
“You could drink me instead.” Kyo wiggled his eyebrows.
“Fuck. I just got hard. Come here, little dragon.” Castor kissed Kyo, unabashed in his display of affection for his mate.
Daman sighed. “Before you guys fuck each other’s brains out again, we need to talk.”
“About what?” Castor growled, eyes darting over to Daman while his lips still moved on Kyo’s.
“Why did Alastair send you? What’s the mission?”
“The mission is for you to take a damn chill pill for the rest of the night.” Castor rose from the armchair and threw Kyo over his shoulder. When Kyo spouted off to him, he smacked his ass. “I’m gonna go fuck my mate. See you losers in the morning.”
“Fucking asshole,” Daman muttered, staring after them as Castor went up the stairs. Kyo’s laugh faded as the door to the guest bedroom slammed shut. “Will one of you tell me what’s going on before I freak the fuck out?”
“Seeing how Gray’s asleep, I guess it’s up to me.” Bellamy sat forward, folding his hands together. His gaze fell to the sleeping male on the couch before drifting back to us. “After learning Asa was here, Al told us to come. Simple as that. He gave us orders to be here in case Asa broke through the kingdom’s barrier. He didn’t want you facing this shit without us.”
“What about Echo Bay?”
“Alastair, Raiden, and Galen have things under control at home. Al told me to keep him updated. If it looks like there’ll be a fight, the rest of them will join us here. Besides, the shades all but left. Lazarus said they’re tracking something. He seemed to know more than he let on though.”
“Typical Lazarus,” Daman said. “You’d think he’d trust us by now. I mean, damn, it’s only been like thousands of years.”
I recalled Asa’s words, of how he had “seen” his victory. Had he told the truth? Or was it a deception to make me second-guess my allegiance? As if anything could ever take me away from Daman’s side.
“War?” Daman’s green eyes met mine, flecks of gold around the irises. “You okay?”
“Yes. Why?”
His brow wrinkled. “You got tense all of a sudden.”
“I’m thinking of Asa. Why did he seek me out if he was in search of something else? Is it connected? He wants my army, yet he left Russia without my surrender.”
“Or.” Bellamy held up a finger. “Another path could’ve opened up to him. Like a side quest in a video game.”
