I would be there, ready to stick my boot up the guy’s ass and send him straight to hell where he belonged.
Chapter Nineteen
Birdie
“He called me.”
I looked up from my computer and took off my reading glasses. “Uh, what?” I laughed.
Layla rounded the nurse’s station and plopped down in the chair next to me. “Snapper. He called me yesterday and asked me if I wanted to grab dinner.”
“That’s great, Layla,” I beamed. “I guess he just needed a little bit of time, right?”
“I had given up on him after he didn’t even talk to me at Easy’s welcome home party.”
It was crazy that it had been two weeks since Easy was discharged.
His vision was almost back to normal, and he only got the occasional headache now. Tomorrow was his appointment with Dr. Gus to see if he would be cleared to start driving. I knew he thought he was ready, but I wasn’t sure.
“When are you going out with him?” I asked.
“Friday.”
“So that gives you two days to worry and stress over what you’re going to wear,” I joked.
“Yeah,” Layla sighed. “I already have my outfit picked out. Though I might head to the mall tomorrow since it’s my day off.”
“I’m sure whatever you wear, Snapper will love it.”
Layla smiled wide and clapped her hands together. “I can’t believe he actually called me. I can feel that he’s different from all the other guys I’ve dated. How crazy is it that I already have some super strong feelings about him?”
If he was anything like Easy, then she was right. “Maybe we can double date sometime.”
“Let’s just hope the first date goes well,” she sighed.
“It will.” I hoped it would.
“I better get back to work. I just had to run up here and tell you.” Layla pumped her fist in the air and jumped up. “Later, Birdie.”
I had ten minutes before I needed to do my rounds, so I pulled my phone out and texted Easy. Snapper asked Layla out. Finally.
Good, doc.
Even on text, I loved when he called me doc. Doll was a close second, but Doc just did something to me. Maybe we can double date with them.
We’ll see.
Not the most exciting response, but I would talk him into it. Ready for your appointment tomorrow?
Ready. Can you still come with me?
I had already planned out my break to be when his appointment was. I will be there.
Good. Did you talk to Chuck?
I tapped my fingers on the desk and sighed. No.
What are you waiting for?
