Easy
Just be positive.
Yeah, sure.
I was positive life sucked, but Dr. Birdie was making it bearable.
The only thing I was positive about was wanting Birdie close to me.
She made me feel better even when she was spouting medical stuff and trying to be a ray of positive sunshine.
She wanted me to be positive?
Then she was going to have to stick to me to make sure I did just that.
Chapter Ten
Birdie
“Did you hear they hired two new ER docs?”
“Oh yeah?” Bailey and I were having lunch in the cafeteria before I headed up to Easy’s room. “I didn’t know they were done with interviews.” That was a good thing for me though so I wouldn’t be bopping around from ER to NICU.
“One was a transfer, and the other is a new hire.” Bailey scraped the bottom of her Jell-O cup with her spoon. “The email hit my inbox an hour ago.”
I had been patching up a three-year-old an hour ago after he had thought he could fly like Superman. I opened my email app and paged through until I found the email.
My eyes scanned through the long, wordy text welcoming Dr. Neil Crank and Dr. Aaron Gibbs.
My breath caught, and I felt the blood drain from my face.
Aaron Gibbs.
“I hope they’re at least nice. I’ve worked with a couple of doctors that were pure assholes.”
Aaron. Gibbs.
“I gotta go, Bailey.” I shoved my phone in my pocket and fled the cafeteria without a backward glance.
I ducked into the women’s restroom and pulled out my phone.
This had to be a mistake.
I read the name wrong.
That had to be it.
I clicked on the email and slowly read over each word until I got to the two words I didn’t want to see.
And we are pleased to welcome Dr. Aaron Gibbs to the ER department.
No.
Why?
Why would he do this?
My phone buzzed loudly, and Greta’s name flashed on the screen. I fumbled to hold on to it and managed to connect the call. “Hi,” I chirped.
