CHAPTER 8
JAKE
“That’s what I want. Someone who understands it’s not that I want to work nonstop, but I can’t help myself. I need to know my business can thrive, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. Unfortunately, not a lot of people are willing to feel like they’re not as important as a business. It’s not that I actually feel that way, it’s just my business is important.” I hated how the words sounded, but so far, I’d been completely honest with Spencer, and I didn’t want to change that now.
Spencer’s eyes met mine and in them I saw no judgment, instead I saw understanding. “I know what you mean. I love my job, and most people just don’t understand how I can put so many hours into something and not put the same amount of effort into a relationship. It’s not that I don’t want one, and it’s not that it’s not as important. I don’t know, I’m not great at explaining it.”
My fingers glided across his brow making him meet my eyes again. “I think you explained it perfectly. It takes a certain person to understand it’s not that your feelings are any less for them, it’s just that for right now in your life, your focus is on business.”
He nodded and kissed me. “That’s it.”
Once again, my hand found its way to his dick, and I was surprised to find him growing hard the same as me. I tried to remember the last time I’d been with someone I’d stayed all night with for more than a quick fuck but couldn’t. Even my ex never stayed the night. I gripped both our dicks in my hand while we both slowly thrust. Spencer kissed me with a renewed urgency as he wrapped his hand around us too. I wanted him again and I wasn’t sure there could be a point I didn’t want him. Another groan escaped me. He gripped us tighter and ground harder against me.
“Jake,” he whispered and pressed his face into my neck just before he tightened up and came. The warmth of it and the slide of our hands on my dick made me follow right behind him. Both of us lay there panting but not moving.
“I could stay right here all night,” I said when I could finally form a coherent sentence.
“Me too. This night has turned out so different and so much better than I expected,” he said. His words slurred from exhaustion and release. I kissed his cheek before getting up and walking into the bathroom. After cleaning myself up, I wet a washcloth and walked back into the room. He was exactly as I’d left him, and didn’t react at all when I wiped him off.
After tossing the cloth back into the bathroom I settled into bed next to him. I meant what I’d said, I never wanted to forget this night, or Spencer, and as I drifted off to sleep wrapped around him, I hoped we’d find a way to somehow see each other again.
I woke to the sun beating into the room and my phone buzzing. After practically falling out of bed, I fumbled around with my pants until finally pulling out my phone. “Hello?” I said before even looking to see who it was.
“Jake, we’ve got a situation at the restaurant,” my sister, Ruby, said and went on to explain how a pipe had broken and flooded the kitchen last night after the night crew left.
“Damage is minimal, but we’ll need anyone we can get to get it cleaned up,” she said. My eyes slid shut as my thoughts raced with the names of anyone I could think of that would be willing to help.
“I’ll be there as soon as I can,” I said.
“Jake, I’m sorry to ruin your day off,” she said before hanging up.
For a moment I couldn’t move, and I realized how much I was looking forward to spending today with Spencer if he didn’t have any other plans. Warm arms wrapped around me where I sat on the floor and legs appeared on the outside of mine as he wrapped himself around me. “How can I help?”
Reaching for his hand I pulled it close. “That was my sister. Apparently, a pipe broke and flooded the kitchen. I need to get over there and help clean up. We’re closed today but tomorrow will be busy. Spencer?—”
“Shh, come on, let’s shower and get dressed. I’ll need to go home and change but then I’ll meet you there,” he said like it was something we did every day, and he was just waiting for me to ask him for help. But I didn’t even need to.
“I can’t let you do that,” I finally managed to say.
“Oh, you’re not letting me do anything. I’m doing it all on my own.” He stood and held his hand out to me. “Come on. You have work to do.”
My eyes bounced between his face and his outstretched hand. He was serious, and all I had to do was accept what he was offering. I gripped his hand, and we hurried to the shower. This time it was all about efficiency and getting out of here as soon as we could.
“I wish I’d brought a toothbrush,” he mumbled as he stood at the mirror with a towel wrapped around his waist showing off his toned abs while brushing back his hair with his fingers.
“I think I saw one in that basket,” I said and pointed at the little basket that held soap, hand lotion, and two toothbrushes and a small tube of toothpaste.
“Oh, thank god,” he said before taking one of the brushes while handing me the other. He grinned at me in the mirror as the two of us brushed our teeth side by side.
This I could get used to , kept repeating on my mind.
