Hay and I were on our way to the brunch spot to meet up with Bryte and Rusha.

We were a few weeks behind for our girl’s brunch day because of everybody’s schedule.

Today was for us to catch up with each other and see how we were all doing mentally, emotionally, and physically. I appreciated our times like this.

I’d spent years listening to them conversing about the plights and joys of womanhood, and now that I was seriously considering dating Cache, I needed their advice.

Hay pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant and parked next to Bryte’s big ass truck.

Tread always made sure she didn’t want or need for anything.

Seconds later Rusha pulled in right next to us in her truck.

Her truck was just as huge. My big cousin Bravo was half a man until Rusha came into his life. He’d lost his first wife, his girls’ mom, and Rusha stepped in, breathing life into him and his girls. Their wedding was set for the end of the summer, and I couldn’t wait to get into my bridesmaid dress.

Rusha had such great taste. Our dresses were beautiful. I couldn’t wait to hear all the wedding updates. Haylow and I climbed out.

“Hey, y’all, hey!” Rusha squealed, pulling both of us into a tight hug.

“Hey yourself,” I replied. “You look so beautiful with your wedding glow.”

“Aww! Thank you, babes. I’ll surely take that compliment because I feel exhausted and drained from planning our wedding.”

“It’s a lot going on, but you got us, sis, and you know we’ll help however we can,” Haylow responded.

Rusha beamed. “I appreciate y’all so much. Let’s get up in this place so we can listen to Bryte’s bossy self tell us about the importance of being on time.”

We all laughed because she wasn’t lying. Hay and I followed behind her and entered the restaurant. The hostess greeted us and led us over to Bryte. She looked up from her menu and rolled her eyes.

Bryte sighed. “Do any of you understand the importance of time?”

“Girl, relax. You act like we’re an hour late. We’re barely ten minutes late,” Hay voiced, taking the seat next to her big sister.

“Hay, hush. I already know you late because you had to smoke yo’ morning blunt, which clearly made my baby Hevyn late. Do better, big head,” Bryte stated, pulling me in a tight hug.

I took the seat next to Bryte and Hay rolled her eyes at me.

She made me laugh. Hay was such a spoiled brat, and I told her to hurry up, but nope she had to get one blunt in.

The sisters were always on each other’s cases.

That was just them. Bryte pushed Hay to make better choices for her life, and Hay constantly stated how uptight Bryte was even though she got consistent dick.

“Bryte, I swear you act more like my mama than my big sister,” Hay shot back. She picked up her menu and scanned over it.

Rusha walked up and intervened, cutting Bryte off from responding.

“Yes the hell she does, Hay. However, in my best friend’s defense, she is the oldest sister and that’s how they act.

You two have way more in common than y’all know.

Now are we going to enjoy our brunch together or what?

” Rusha queried, hugging Bryte around her neck.

“I’m high, so you know I’m ready to eat,” Hay stated. We looked at each and cackled like hens.

Bryte rolled her eyes to the ceiling, trying not to laugh at her little sister’s reply. “I’m ready to eat too, and for the record, Hay, I was talking to all y’all and not just you. I wasn’t singling you out. Let’s start over. Hey, sister.” Bryte leaned over and pulled Haylow into a tight hug.

Hay squeezed her tighter and looked at me. She stuck her tongue out at me like I’d done her earlier. I shook my head and picked up my menu. Bryte and Hay separated.

Rusha took her seat next to me. “Now, that’s more like it. Let’s get some drinks, appetizers, and food going. I’m starved. Vo put my ass through the mattress this morning. The dick always hit different before we part from each other. I need all the food I can get.”

We all chuckled at Rusha. Her ass has literally sexed life back into Bravo.

“Rusha, don’t nobody wanna hear about how our brother takes you to pound town,” Hay voiced, dancing in her seat to the restaurant music.

“I second that shit,” Bryte added, laughing.

“Y’all shut up. You heathens don’t have a choice but to listen,” Rusha shot back, signaling a waiter.

We all laughed a little more until the waiter came over. One by one, we placed our orders. When our drinks and appetizers were served, I found a little courage to express my feelings. I cleared my throat, and three pairs of eyes zoomed in on me.

“Ladies, there’s some things I’d like to discuss with y’all,” I revealed.

Hay grinned. “Spill the beans. I been dying for this tea.”

“What tea?” Bryte and Rusha questioned in unison.

“Well, y’all know I’ve been seeing Cache.”

Rusha wore a confused face. “Who’s Cache? I thought you were talking to Peel?”

“They the same people, girl.” Bryte chimed in.

Rusha smiled and nodded.

“Aww, I see what’s going on. That man told you to call him by his government name and not his street name. Oh, I love it, but go ahead and fill us in,” she said eagerly.

“Yeah, he did. He’s so intentional with everything he says and does. His sweet and thoughtful side motivates me to wanna be around him all the time. I’m also still a little apprehensive and nervous.”

“Really? Why do you feel that way, boo?” Bryte probed.

“What if we make it to the point where sex is the next step while we’re dating? Y’all know I’m inexperienced. I know how to look sexy, but I don’t know how to be sexy. That’s what I’m worried about,” I professed.

“Oh, I see. Your feelings are completely valid. I understand where your apprehension is coming from. I was nervous my first time. Hell, most women are. You don’t have to go out of your way to be someone you’re not. Cache clearly likes you for who you are.

“When the time comes for you and him to make love, be upfront about your virginity, and if Cache is the man I know him to be, you won’t have anything to worry about.

Don’t go in with the intention of trying to please him.

You being there is more than enough. All you have to do is relax and let Cache guide you,” Bryte advised.

“Way to go, best friend. I couldn’t have said it better myself,” Rusha coached.

“I agree with you, big sis. You knocked that one out of the park,” Hay added, smacking on her waffle and chicken bite.

“You made me feel a whole lot better, but are you sure that’s all I have to do? I guess I’m overthinking it because he works around all those women at the club,” I confessed.

“I see why you feel that way. It’s pretty faces and curvy bodies all over the place, but he already done told you not to worry about them. It’s you that Cache wants. He told you that in the flower shop that day,” Haylow countered.

Rusha chortled. “Cache playing for keeps, and you have to be as well. So, who you choosing? Cache or the dancers?”

“Cache,” I responded confidently.

“Alright then. Let the other bullshit go. He don’t even play with them women.

Mostly everybody in that place scared of him.

Besides, you know I still work there part-time, doing their hair and makeup, and you know I ain’t never gon’ let some bullshit pop off between him and another woman, when I know y’all working on something together.

“This journey is scary, but you’re not alone. We all got your back. Plus, Bravo and Tread would be on his ass. They work a lot, but family is sacred to them. Let your guard down, and enjoy this time with him,” Rusha motivated me.

I nodded my understanding. “You ladies are right. I’m going to relax and enjoy the time we spend together. Whichever way our journey goes, then so be it.”

“That’s right, boo. Now, try this teriyaki sauce on this chicken bite and waffle. It’s so good,” Haylow stated, dancing in her seat again from her food.

She put the bite together and fed it to me.

“Mm. This is so good. You were right, boo,” I admitted while chewing.

“Hay always put the best tasting combos together when she high,” Bryte professed, chuckling. She took the bite from Hay and chewed it happily.

“Oh, I know.” Rusha chimed in. “I remember how she used to have you and Janelle eating the craziest shit while y’all was pregnant.” She went silent for a bit. “Janelle.”

Rusha shook her head. “I miss my baby so much. I’m almost at the point where I can talk about her without crying, but damn do I still miss her like crazy.”

She released a deep sigh and focused back on her food. I rubbed her back softly.

Bryte stood from her seat and hugged her best friend around her neck like Rusha had done her earlier.

“It’s alright, baby. We all miss our angel so much.

What I’m most grateful for is the fact that we got blessed with you.

You take care of our brother and his girls just like Janelle used to.

She knew exactly what she was doing when she asked you to take her place.

” Bryte encouraged, kissing the top of Rusha’s curls.

“Thank you, best friend. You know I appreciate you so much,” Rusha noted.

They tightly before Bryte took her seat.

“I love our relationship. Our bond is really special. Even when Janelle was here, we were all still close and now closer after her passing. It really is a blessing to have such a supportive and strong womanhood. With that being said, since next week is my turn to pick a place for us to meet up, I say we go to Tread’s club.

I’m overdue for some fun and fire ass wings,” Hay said.

I entertained my meal, refusing to make eye contact with Hay. She could read my ass better than a book.

“I’m down,” Rusha agreed.

“Me too,” Bryte stated.

It got quiet. I looked up to see everyone’s eyes on me. “Why y’all looking at me like that?” I queried with an uneasy smile.

“Girl, is you coming or not?” Hay quizzed.

“I don’t know. Y’all know clubs in general just isn’t my cup of tea.”
