I peered from the large window in Tread’s and my office. My eyes scanned the partygoers. They danced, drank, and threw money at the strippers that performed.

We had quite a few stages on the main level to keep money flowing in. The deejay booth and bar was on that level as well. The second level held the rooms for the private dances. Lastly, the third level was where our office sat and our in-house restaurant was located.

The club was Tread’s, but I helped manage it along with his manager, Deshon. Didn’t shit shake without my approval. My eyes continued to scan the crowd.

It had been years since my mama passed and we took over Big Tex’s empire. A lot of people speculated we had something to do with it, but nobody had the heart to step to us. Plus, authorities had no evidence, so they didn’t have a case.

Tread was the brains behind this shit. He had an eye for business and numbers. It was my idea to put an end to the drug shit though. I hated sellin’ that shit to our people.

That never sat well with me. I was cool with distributing weapons and other black-market shit. That was what Tread and I did together. Aside from our illegal shit, I had my own businesses going on.

I accomplished creating my own import and export business along with a small moving company. I owned four moving trucks with a small group of employees I looked out for. However, there was a dark side to me. I could only be good for so long before the darkness in me wanted to come out and play.

When I killed Tyriq and his people, something unlocked in me. I didn’t mind killing. The act of killing was like second nature to me. It proved to be a very lucrative side hustle as well.

I never flinched, blinked, or had remorse for the niggas I killed. They were all bad people anyways. When Tread wanted someone handled, I handled it. I always knew the reason why.

Every time a person put our empire in jeopardy or tried to, I dealt with them. The amount of snitches I’d killed was crazy. The authorities worked relentlessly to infiltrate our shit, but it didn’t work. Every time they sent one of their snitches or undercovers in, I sent them a message.

I was very thorough and sharp at my job. I chuckled internally. I was so cold at the shit that the authorities couldn’t link shit back to us. I trained myself to think like the law. They weren’t as bright as they liked to think. That’s why it was so easy to imitate them.

The loud roars from our patrons pulled me from my thoughts. My eyes shifted to Apple Bottom on the stage. She had the crowd going crazy from her routine.

That was what I liked to see. Money flitted from the air, and from the looks of things, it would be another successful night. All the beautiful women here tonight made me think about my butterfly.

Twenty-four hours had passed, and I still hadn’t heard from Hevyn.

She thought shit was sweet, but I had a plan for her.

Before I entered her family’s shop, I placed a tracker under her car next to her right wheel.

Like I told her, I always got what I wanted.

I turned from the window and looked at Tread.

He looked up from his meal. “What’s on your mind, bro?”

“Hevyn,” I replied.

Tread chuckled and wiped his mouth. “How can I be of assistance?”

“For now, I got it handled. I’m about to head out. You straight?”

“I’m good. Good luck, my boy,” he expressed with humor in his voice.

I smirked. “You know I got this shit in the bag. Later, my nigga.”

I grabbed my shit and took our private elevator to the parking lot. There was only one place on my mind before I went to my butterfly. I climbed into my SUV then sped out of the parking lot. When I pulled into his driveway, Vo stood in the doorway totin’ his cigar.

I’d already gave him the heads up I’d stop by. I climbed out my ride and walked up his front steps to greet him. Vo had a bad ass family home. We gave each other a tight bro hug.

“What’s up, bro?” I queried.

“I’m coolin’. Other than my family, you the only person I’d let pop up at my house at two in the morning. You must have some heavy shit going,” Vo expressed, locking the door behind me.

“I do, man. I know you’ll understand.”

“I’m all ears.” Vo guided me into the dining room where his bar was. “Speak yo’ mind, Peel.”

Vo put out his cigar and poured both of us a shot. He slid me glass.

“Thanks, bro. You know when I get some in my head, I gotta act or I won’t be able to rest. I want your blessing to pursue a relationship with Hevyn. It’s too late to approach yo’ pops. As the older cousin, you’re next in line to give me the permission I need,” I stated and tossed back my shot.

Vo tossed back his shot. He leaned over the bar and stared at me.

“Hevyn, huh?”

“Yeah. The first time I seen her, I knew she was the one for me. Them curls, lips, and her whole shy demeanor just takes my breath away. I want her real bad. I need her by my side.”

“Peel, you live an interesting lifestyle. Hevyn don’t know shit about the streets. She’s used to the quiet and soft life that my pops, brothers, and myself have created for her. Is this a short term thing or long term?”

“Long term. I’m going to marry Hevyn.”

“How you know that already?”

“Forever is the only thought in my mind when I see her,” I answered honestly.

Vo nodded. He continued to look at me. “You break her heart, I’ll break every bone in yo’ body. How she looks now is how I expect her to look every time I see her. We on the same page?”

“I wouldn’t expect anything less. I know you know what I do, but Hevyn is who I want to share my life with.

I’ve never looked at another woman the way I look at her.

I ain’t never felt this way before. I’m a hard ass nigga with a crazy ass past, but I got love to give.

So yo’ blessing means to world to me. Can I pursue Hevyn? I swear I got her covered.”

Vo nodded. “We been locked in since we were boys. You got my blessing. Now how else can I help? You need her number or anything?”

I laughed and stood from my seat. “Nope. I gave her twenty-fours to contact me after I gave her my number. Hevyn’s time is up. I’m about to pop up at her job.”

Vo chortled. “Oh, shit. If she ain’t text you, how in the hell do you know where she works?”

I wiggled my brows.

“Man, you know me. I been put a tracker on her ride,” I responded truthfully and unashamedly.

Vo shook his head. “Aye, I ain’t even mad at you. Sometimes, you gotta get a little crazy for the woman you love. Handle yo’ business.”

“You feel me, bro.”

He walked around his bar, and we shared a bro hug before he walked me out his house. I climbed in my car and sped off to my girl.

After a few hours of sleep, I made it to the rich ass neighborhood that Hevyn worked in. There was nothing but expensive ass two and three level family homes and tall ass trees that surrounded me. It was seven in the morning, and the sun shined brightly.

I reached out to Haylow and found out that Hevyn got off at this time. Hay said Hevyn was a traveling night nurse for babies. I had no idea what a night nurse was, but once Hevyn was off, I planned to ask her twenty-one questions.

It looked as if I stalked Hevyn, but that wasn’t the case.

As a Virgo male, my values were different.

I was practical, analytical as fuck, and a perfectionist. Whatever I set my mind to, I had to complete it.

What helped me achieve my goals were order, discipline, and structure.

My mind and heart were set on Hevyn, and I would get her.

The time was 7:05 a.m., and my eyes were glued to the dark blue door. Any minute, my butterfly would walk out. I licked my lips, and as if that was the password, my butterfly stepped onto the front porch.

A woman followed behind her with an infant wrapped in a blanket.

They smiled and said their goodbyes. The lady with the baby waved and closed the door behind Hevyn.

My eyes scanned a welcome sign on their porch that read The Kors .

I shook my head. Some rich people didn’t know how to be subtle or low-key.

Hevyn tiredly strolled to her car. She probably thought she’d be able to go home right away.

I had other plans for her though. It was game time.

I climbed out my truck and swaggered over to Hevyn and stepped in her path.

She stopped in her tracks with a deer-in-headlights expression on her face.

Her brows furrowed seconds later. Hevyn looked around at her surroundings then back at me.

“Wha-What are you doing here, Cache? Ho-How do you know where to find me?” Hevyn inquired, stumbling over her words.

I clasped my hand over my wrist and stared at her. Hevyn looked beautiful in her powder blue scrubs that were covered in small white clouds. Her curly mane was out and framed her small, round face. Hevyn’s lips were moisturized with what I assumed was her favorite gloss.

The tired look on her face expressed she was ready for her bed. There were so many naughty thoughts that flashed in my mind as I gawked at her. Why couldn’t she see and understand how serious I was about her? Hevyn had no idea how she made me feel, but she was about to learn.

Hevyn shifted her weight to the other foot. I released a deep sigh before I walked closer to her and removed the two bags she held.

“The last time I saw you, I told you, you had twenty-four hours to contact me. You didn’t reach out, so I made good on my word and popped up. I have resources, Hevyn, and I’m serious about you.”

“Cache.”

She said my name so softly. Her tone of voice sailed through me and stopped at my dick. It pulsed a bit in my pants, but now wasn’t the time to be a horny nigga.

“Come on, butterfly. I’m taking you to breakfast. While there, you can give me the chance to get to know you better.”

“Cache, I look a mess right now, plus I’m tired.” She slightly pouted.

“First, you always look radiant. Secondly, you’ll learn that I’m very good company. Lastly, I’m not taking no for an answer. Check this out, Hevyn. We either go to breakfast, or I go home with you. I’m down for either. It’s as simple as that,” I expressed, staring deeply into her pretty brown eyes.

“Breakfast it is,” Hevyn countered.

“That’s my butterfly.”

Hevyn unlocked her car, and I placed her things inside. Afterward, I took her to get some of the best breakfast in town.
