“Because I like her,” Jin replies, defiantly. I blush. This conversation feels too intimate and private to be eavesdropping on, but I can’t stop myself. After all, they’re discussing me . “Both Omegas feel like mine. Pack.”

“I like Bliss too,” Tor snaps. “How many Omegas have I carried in my arms like an idiot? I’m only a romantic in my songs because I wrote them for you. She’s mine, I mean, she feels like she should be. You’re mine .”

“Charming, I am. You know that I am.”

“I can’t lose you again. How many nights did you lie awake thinking about me?

Because I spent every single day and night thinking of you.

Obsessed? You have no idea what it means.

You had Zero. An entire dorm around you.

I was alone. But I’m not the one who is going to get their ass handed to them over this. You are.”

“Me and impulse control. We’re not friends.”

“My brother will be a nightmare over this. You know what he’ll do. Fuck, I’d do anything to protect you. I always have, but you make it difficult. We’re finally together again, and I’m terrified for you, anamchara.”

“What if I’m just as terrified about what will happen to you? Don’t I get to protect you, Charming?”

“You did when we were kids. Not now. Here, pass the towel. I’ll dry you.”

Cricket and I exchange a glance.

The image of the two men, naked and dripping, drying each other is enough to make my heat flare higher.

At the same time, my concern for Jin keeps my mind from tipping over into full heat.

I knew that Jin would get into trouble for his actions. He’s here with me, when he should be on stage.

By law, if he takes on the duty of being Beta during this heat, then nobody can force their way in and take him to be the host at the party.

It’s the most efficient method of saving him.

On the other hand, what will be the long term consequences of that?

Will they be worse?

He could wreck his entire career.

Tor appears to think that it’s worse than that. Plus, apparently these two men were childhood friends. And Tor is in just as much trouble.

Although it’s amazing to hear that I’m Jin’s, and that Tor likes me too, the fear of what will happen after my heat ends is making me feel sick.

Cricket is pale as well.

I struggle to pull my phone out of my pocket, while I still can.

I need to talk things through with Chase.

I burrow underneath the nest of blankets. Cricket helps to toss clothes over me to muffle my voice.

“Keep look out,” I order, before calling my brother.

“Chase…” I whisper.

“Okay, Little Wolf?” Chase asks, sounding the least calm that I’ve heard him.

I furrow my brow. “What’s all that noise?”

“It’s thousands of fans having weeping fits outside the Omega Hotel because of your romantic and now viral love story with their Idol,” Chase drawls. “It’s why we can’t extract you. Did you decide to change the plan without telling me?”

I swallow. “My heat did.”

“But that’s not for another—”

“Tell that to the slick running down my thighs.”

“Jin is an asshole,” Piper yells. “Romantic but still, an asshole for slinging Cricket over his shoulder like that and possessively prowling out of the arena with that Alpha and you. He’ll get Immortal’s ass kicked. Now, we have to rescue Immortal too.”

“We have to rescue all the Idols,” I reply. I’m sure of that more than I ever was. The entire music industry, as much as the journalistic one, needs reforming. It needs a fucking uprising. “But to be fair, it wasn’t Jin’s fault. Dragons are possessive of their treasure.”

Chase chuckles. “Stop reading dragon shifter smut.”

“Never.”

But then, my brother sobers. “Are you really safe, Little Wolf? I’ve been fucking frantic. Lion’s clip must have dropped out, when you were being jostled and carried out of the arena.”

Dismayed, I reach to pat at my head.

The clip was Lionzio’s birthday gift to me. He worked hard on the technology to keep me safe.

And I’ve lost it on my first mission.

In heat, my emotions are bubbling too close to the surface.

My eyes burn with tears. “Sorry, Alpha. Will Lion be sad that I didn’t take better care of it? Will he think that I don’t value him? Because I do. He’s my best friend.”

I feel like I’m spiraling.

I’m shaking. My scent sours in distress.

“Bee,” Cricket warns in alarm.

I’m too lost in my Omega sorrow at having lost a gift from an Alpha in my pack to react.

Suddenly, the blankets are ripped off my head.

Tor is towering above me.

I eep and cower back.

Tor is dressed in nothing but a fluffy white towel, which is wrapped around his waist.

He’s powerful, muscled, and broad shouldered. His damp hair is tousled.

Light glints off his gold nipple rings.

How does he look more gorgeous like this?

The cold shower appears to have taken the edge off his rut, but he’s still vibrating with the effort to hold himself back.

His cock is hard and huge; I can tell by the outline of it under his towel.

My mouth is suddenly dry.

Jin stands by his side in a matching towel. They look like a bonded pair.

Also, impossibly beautiful together.

Jin’s long, white hair falls loosely around his shoulders. He’s removed his makeup, but his eyes are just as long lashed. Somehow, they look even larger now.

He has the athletic body of a dancer.

He’s as beautiful as a painting.

Casually, he rests his hand on Tor’s elbow.

It’s a simple gesture, but I can’t look away from it.

“Who’s upsetting an Omega in heat?” Tor’s voice is silky but deadly.

He holds his hand out to me like I’m automatically going to hand him my phone.

He doesn’t know me at all.

He lifts his eyebrow in surprise, when I keep my phone clutched to my ear.

“Tor is here,” I explain to Chase, before meeting Tor’s gaze with difficulty because the muscles of his hard chest are distracting. Then I say to Tor, “My Head Alpha. My brother.”

Tor’s shoulders relax. “I see.”

When he leans closer, however, suddenly I’m assaulted by his scent. It’s like the paradise of the vanilla tea hits me a million times harder than when I only smelled his t-shirt.

I can’t fight it.

I don’t want to.

I whine, taking another deep breath and panting hard.

Because this Alpha, Tor, is my scent match.

I can’t deny it.

I don’t know what it’ll mean, if anything.

Shit, why did this need to happen now?

Tor’s pupils dilate, before he looks at me, hungrily. He noses my cheek and then my hair like he can’t get enough of my scent either.

“What’s going on with my Queen?” Jin demands.

Cricket protectively scrambles behind me, glancing between us.

“She’s my scent match.” Tor lowers his head. There is something dark and deep and stirring in his gaze as it meets mine. “Finally, I meet my scent match. And she’s a journalist.”

I bristle. “What do you have against journalists?”

“What don’t I? How can I trust that you won’t make money out of anything I tell you? Anything Jin does? I’ll wake up after the heat to headlines about the size of my knot.”

I open my mouth to protest, but then realize that he has a point.

Why should he trust me?

I am investigating the Idols. I do have a secret mission.

It sounds like he has good reason not to trust other journalists.

On the other hand, his delicious scent is winding around me. It tells me that this Alpha is the one I need in my heat.

“What if I promise you that everything that happens between us is off the record?” I say. “I swear, no headlines like Knot Satisfying Enough or When the Earth Did Knot Move.”

Tor straightens with a snort. “I’ve heard that before.”

“Charming,” Jin bumps his shoulder against the larger Alpha’s, “stop playing hard to get. How can you resist someone who smells of caramel and chocolate? You already look like you want to devour her, and having eaten her pussy once, I’d die for the chance to do it again.

She won’t break her promise. I told you, I trust her.

And she’s in heat. This is what you’ve dreamed about for years, being with me and having an Omega.

And look, two of them. They’re both my pack.

They claimed me. Isn’t that male one fucking adorable?

He even has freckles, which I know is a thing for you. ”

Both Cricket and I blush.

But then, so does Tor.

“You’re never going to learn that it’s all about the mystery, are you?” Tor snatches the phone from me.

Chase is yelling on the other end.

Spellbound by finding my scent match, I’d forgotten that I has halfway through a conversation.

Jin winks at me. “It’ll be fine. Charming can, well, charm anyone.”

Tor places the phone to his ear. “Am I talking to this precious Omega’s brother?

First, let me assure you that I will keep her safe through her heat…

” Tor stutters to a stop, paling. I don’t know what my brother is saying to him, but it’s something frightening enough to make Tor cast me a shocked and impressed glance.

“Well, that’s graphic and creative. I didn’t even know you could do that…

ouch, painful. I get the message. To be fair, you’re the one who let her attend a concert, when she was close to her heat. ”

I wince at the same time as Tor does.

The wrong word there was let.

My brother doesn’t let me do anything. Tor is clearly being scolded about that right now.

“It came on early,” I grumble.

“It must have been your closeness to your scent match, my Queen.” Jin climbs onto the bed, wrapping his arms around me.

I rest my head on his shoulder. It’s incredible how right this feels.

“I’ve worked in enough venues to know that ventilators take scents away but they can’t remove our biological reactions or underlying pheromones.

Your body recognized it enough to draw on a heat. ”

I become ashen.

It’s rare for heats to be triggered by meeting scent matches and only happens when the match is an extremely powerful one.

The heats that they create can be unstable, extreme, and sometimes even deadly.

Cricket casts me a worried glance.
