Cricket’s chirps immediately cut off.

So, she’s the one who calls his gorgeous chirps stupid.

“Your chirp is beautiful,” I say loudly, cupping Cricket’s cheek.

Cricket’s beautiful eyes are wide with wonder, as they meet mine.

Chase drives Hudson to the floor, grappling him. The other man tries unsuccessfully to fight back.

“You fucker.” Hudson jabs and kicks, but none of his blows make contact.

Chase pins Hudson on his back by his throat.

Then he raises his fist, slamming it into Hudson’s nose with a crunch of bone.

“It’s impressive how many reasons you’re giving me to tear off your balls, before drowning you in the same barrel that you dunked your precious son.

I don’t recommend anyone insults him again or I’ll rip out your tongue to present to him as a gift. ”

Chase readies to punch Hudson in the jaw.

“Dad,” one of the teenage Alphas calls in distress.

Unsure, Chase lowers his fist. He glances at me.

I can tell that he’s uncomfortable taking apart even an Alpha like Hudson in front of his sons.

Lucky for Hudson.

“Why aren’t you fighting back?” Possie sneers at her husband. “I have two Omega Rejects here to drown and I want to get some sleep tonight.”

I growl at her, clutching Cricket closer to me.

“Possie,” Hudson rasps, as Chase holds him down more firmly by the throat, “shut the fuck up. You don’t know who this.

It’s Harbinger , the fucking Champion cage fighter.

We’ll give him what he wants, and he’ll let me live.

How about that deal? We’ve just done a big job.

We turned over a jewelry store in Sanctum. You can take the diamonds.”

Possie cringes, taking a cowardly step backward toward the house and further away from Chase.

Cricket nuzzles me, touch starved. He noses at my neck above my leathers desperately.

“I knew that you’d come.” Cricket peers up at me from underneath his eyelashes.

Such faith.

It’s heart wrenching.

Having Cricket’s trust like this is everything, when I know how much it means for him to move on from the betrayal of the last pack who made promises to him.

And the female Omega who wrecked him.

She must have known how his family would treat him, when he was sent back to them…what she was sending him home to.

Then Cricket whispers, half plea and half question, “Don’t leave me here…?”

“Never.”

How could I? Cricket is the other part of my soul, which has always been missing.

I understand now why I’ve been so addicted to his nightly messages.

Why hearing his voice was a revelation.

Now, meeting him even like this and smelling his scent is like an opening up of an entire new world.

In it, I have a male Omega who is mine to protect like I’ve always dreamed about.

A man who is already protecting Jin and fighting the same struggle as I am to change the world.

A man who I admire and respect.

Cricket is shivering from the cold.

I slip off my jacket, sliding it over his shoulders to try and warm him up.

Chase glances over at me, arching his eyebrow.

The last thing that I would do would be to force an Omega. With me, Cricket has choice and consent. He has to make the decision to leave his pack and join the Wolves. And he just has.

I nod.

Chase smiles, before his expression darkens again, as he redirects his attention to Hudson. “Thanks for the kind offer. But we want something more precious than diamonds.”

Possie snorts, slipping her arms around her Alpha sons like she’s the picture of the loving mom.

“The knothead means Cricket. He must be the one that our little slut has been whoring himself to. I told you that I thought he’s been earning some secret money for himself through being a cam Omega on something like OnlyOmegas. ”

One of the Alpha boys snicker.

I glare at him.

Cricket’s blush deepens. “I d-didn’t. I h-haven’t…”

Chase shrugs. “Shame. I’ve been considering having fun as a cam Alpha. I have the ass for it.”

I choke on my tongue.

I’d love to see my brother’s uber dominant and possessive Alpha, Feral’s, reaction to that.

I’m certain that Chase is joking to make Cricket feel better.

Still, I never know with my brother.

To my surprise, Cricket chuckles.

He darts a glance at Chase and then me. “Your Alpha?”

“My brother.”

“He’s nice.”

Warmth floods through me.

I’m not sure that anyone has ever called Chase nice before.

Unhinged. Cocky. Self-destructive.

But not nice .

I push Cricket’s wet curls out of his face, glad that his shivering has reduced.

I pull him even tighter against my side to share my warmth. “Chase is your pack now. I have an Omega brother too. He’ll be excited to meet you.”

“Excited?” Cricket whispers in shock, as if he can’t imagine that anyone would be excited to meet an Omega like him.

He’ll need to get used to it, especially with Piper.

Hudson’s contemptuous gaze settles on Cricket, making him shrink back. “I don’t care what you do with my son. He’s worthless. If you want him, take him as a fucktoy. Why would I fight for my son, when he’s going to be dead soon anyway?”
