AB - Aryan Brotherhood aka “brotherhood”
Boss - Slang for prison guard
Bunkie - Cellmate
Cage - Prison cell
Cellie - Cellmate
Chomo - Child Molester
Chow - Meal
C/O (CO) - Correctional Officer
Cowboy - New correctional officer
Ding wing - Psyche Ward
Dinner & a show - Meal time with inmates fighting and getting pepper sprayed by officers.
Drop/Dropped - When a guard forcefully tackles an inmate to restrain them
EMS - Emergency Services
Fresh meat - New prisoners
Frequent flier - Someone regularly incarcerated
Gen pop - General population
Green light - Permission to kill on sight
Hoe check - Communal beating to see if an inmate will retaliate/stand up for themselves
Hole (the) - Seg aka solitary confinement
House - Prison cell
IA - “Internal affairs”
Jody - Man sleeping with another inmate’s woman outside of prison
Juice card - Inmates influence with officers or other prisoners
June bug - Inmate slaved to other prisoners
Kitty kitty - Inmate slang for female officer
Lockdown - Act where guards lock inmates in their cells till a disturbance calms down.
Meat wagon - Hospital ambulance, takes sick or dead inmates out of the prison
Molly whopped - Fight/hit/beat someone up
On the count - Inmates in line for headcount
PC - Protective Custody
Programmer - Inmate who spends most of their time in class trying to grow
Quiet time - Period of time when the halls/rec area are cleared out and inmates head to their cells for the night.
Ratchette - Nurse
Rec - Short for recreation
Robocop - Guard who writes up every infraction
Shakedown - Act where guards toss a prisoner’s cell looking for contraband
Shiv/Shank - Homemade knife
Shot caller - Leader of a gang/high ranking prisoner
Slop - Prison food - loose casserole,tomato-based. Insulting to cooks/supervisors.
Vic - Victim
Yard - Fenced in area for outdoor recreation
