Moving Day

The blaring alarm jolted me out of my sleep.

I tried to feel around the bed for my phone to no avail.

My eyes opened as I fought to keep them closed.

A late night was the worst thing I could have done last night.

I was moving into my place today, so I should have been in bed early.

When I finally found the phone, I turned the annoying alarm off.

Now that my eyes had adjusted to the sun beaming through the curtains, I looked at my notifications.

There was a good morning text from Jacob that made me smile. I went to our message thread to reply.

Me:

Good morning. My alarm disturbed my peaceful sleep, but I’m up now.

Jacob:

What are your plans for today?

Me:

I’m finally moving into my place. If you have time later, you are welcome to stop by. I’ll be there unpacking while I wait for my furniture.

Jacob:

The big day has arrived. Send me the address, and I’ll come make sure the delivery men did their job correctly. Lol.

Me:

An unofficial supervisor of the movers, huh? I see you have jokes. Lol.

Jacob sent the laughing emoji, and I sent him my address. As badly as I wanted to stay in bed, it wasn’t an option. I stretched my body and then prepared to get ready for the day.

After I got dressed, it was time to say goodbye to my temporary home. I did my final walk-through to ensure I left nothing behind.

The movers were bringing my things out of the storage unit that Mason and I shared near our condo, so I needed to get a move on to meet them on time. There was a car waiting downstairs to take me to my place.

Although I was only fifteen minutes away, I soaked up the last few moments of quiet before my day got crazy. I pulled up just in time to see the movers pulling in front of the building.

David, one of the doormen at my new home, advised the movers on where they could unload.

I headed to my unit to await their arrival, and excitement filled me.

It would be the first time in several years that all of my things would be in one place.

All the furniture scheduled for delivery to my home would be complete.

I ordered a pull-out couch for the guest room for when Milani and Imani stayed over.

The room was really my closet, but I wanted them to feel welcome as well.

Over the next few hours, the number of people coming and going from my place made me a little anxious.

I scheduled the deliveries too close together.

With each piece of furniture that was brought into the apartment, it felt more like a home.

The living room, dining room, and outside patio furniture came after the movers.

As the movers left, the company with the furniture for the bedrooms arrived.

Once everyone left, I was finally alone to put the final touches on my place.

As I walked through my apartment, I was so happy to be in my own space.

I found myself walking back and forth more times than I needed to.

There was a knock at the door that took me out of my zone.

I went to the door and checked the peephole to see Jacob standing on the other side.

As I opened the door, he greeted me with a bright smile.

“Hey, love,” he stated.

I smiled back at him. “The unofficial supervisor comes after everyone is gone.”

“My bossy Aquarius doesn’t need any help to boss me around.

However, you do need help remembering to eat.

If I remember correctly, when your day gets busy, you forget to eat.

I’ve come prepared to solve that problem,” he declared as he lifted the bag of food in his left hand while his right hand held a toolbox.

“What’s the toolbox for?” I inquired.

“Just in case you need something put together. You’re stubborn, so I know you would never ask for help. I brought my tools just in case.”

I laughed because Jacob remembered quite a bit about me.

He had no idea of the project I was getting ready to work on.

I looked at Jacob as he came inside. He placed his toolbox on the floor by the door then walked the food over to the island.

Jacob was fine, handy, and he made sure I ate.

He checked off a lot of boxes. One thing I loved was quality time and service, and Jacob consistently delivered on both fronts.

“You may want to grab your tools. I’m sure you don’t want to use my pink ones,” I joked.

Jacob just shook his head as he grabbed his toolbox. I led him to the second bedroom. Before he stepped into the room, he stopped in his tracks. He looked around at the racks of clothes.

“Where are you storing all of this?” he asked.

“Before you so kindly offered your assistance, I was getting ready to build these bookcases. I saw some videos online that people are using this to give them more closet space.”

“You’re so stubborn you could have told me this morning you needed help,” he said.

“I didn’t want to bother you with something I could take care of.”

Jacob turned to face me. He lifted my chin while staring intently into my eyes.

“If you need anything, call me. I’m serious.

If you need something put together, or if you need someone to talk to, it doesn’t matter.

I’m here for you. I don’t want you to think you have to do everything alone. Got it?”

I was so lost in Jacob’s stare that I didn’t realize he was posing a question. His raised eyebrow made me realize that he was awaiting a response.

“Got it. Now that you’re here, we can do it together,” I stated.

“I’ll do the building. You can put the clothes away,” he affirmed.

There was no use in arguing with him. Jacob continued to remind me I wouldn’t lift a finger in his presence.

I did as he said and unpacked some of the clothes.

I hoped Jacob was quick because he had to build the bookcases for both rooms. With the amount of clothes, shoes, and purses I had, I hoped there would be enough room.

If it weren’t, I would need to purge some things since I had no desire to rent another storage unit for my clothes.

Jacob started putting together the bookcases.

There was something about a man who was handy that turned me on.

I tried hard not to stare, but he made it difficult for me to focus.

When I saw all the pieces he had to put together, I was glad he had come.

I would have given up on this project within an hour.

Jacob made it seem so easy. He was almost finished.

When he got to the last case, he took his shirt off, and his toned chest was on full display for me to drool over.

“Are you going to stare at me all day?” he asked.

I felt my face warm with embarrassment. Jacob simply winked at me as I found myself at a loss for words.

When he finished with the last case, he walked over to me, leaving no space between us.

Jacob took my hand and ran it across his chest while my honey pot leaked.

His eyes filled with a lust I’d never seen before.

Jacob bent down to kiss my lips. After a couple of pecks, he slid his warm tongue into my mouth.

A small moan of pleasure escaped my lips.

Our kiss was deep and sensual as the passion oozed between us.

I hated to pull back from him, but if we didn’t stop, I would regret it.

“I’ve wanted to kiss you since I saw you at the fashion show. I hope I didn’t overstep,” Jacob blurted out. A worried expression appeared on his face.

“It was fine. I must admit I’ve wanted you to kiss me for quite some time,” I confessed.

“Good, because I didn’t want to apologize for something I’ve been fantasizing about,” he admitted.

“I only stopped because I’m not ready for this to go any further. I’ve wanted to do more than kiss you for a while now. The only thing stopping me is that I’m not fully divorced,” I assured him.

“Have you thought about how things will be after the papers are signed?” he asked.

I blushed at the idea of what we could be. “More than you could ever imagine. I can’t wait until the time comes.”

“Good, because I don’t want anything to stop us once that’s taken care of,” Jacob whispered tenderly as he pecked my lips again.

With the seat of my panties soaked with my juices, I put some space between us.

This was bound to happen because my attraction to Jacob had grown as the days went on.

Although Jacob’s looks initially caught my attention, he continued to hold my interest because he was so thoughtful.

When Jacob stood up to Mason, he made me feel safe.

He kept showing up for me in ways I didn’t know I needed.

Jacob moved the cases into the closet one by one as I looked on.

“Do you want to eat before you do the next set?” I asked.

He looked at me then licked his lips. “I could eat,” he responded in a low tone.

My mind immediately wandered to how good of an eater he really was.

Jacob slipped his shirt back on as we headed toward the kitchen. When we entered the kitchen, we took turns washing our hands before I went over to the bag to pull out the sandwiches, chips, and drinks he brought.

“Honey-glazed turkey, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, mayo, black pepper, oil, and vinegar,” I rattled off as I looked at the sandwich.

“That’s still your order, right?” he asked.

“It’s been my order since you taught me what the best sandwich in the world is,” I confirmed.

Jacob laughed. “That’s right, don’t forget who put you on. I’ll never forget when you told me you had never had a turkey sandwich on a roll. There was no way you could call yourself a New Yorker without experiencing a deli sandwich.”

“The one thing you were right about. I’ve been hooked ever since,” I commented as I took a bite into my favorite sandwich.

I finished half of my sandwich before I got full. We ate in comfortable silence.

“Is there anything other than the divorce we need to talk about before we take things further? I want to make sure you are comfortable if things between us progress,” he asked.

“Whatever happens between us, I want to take my time. I don’t want to rush into anything. This is my first and last time getting a divorce,” I explained.

“I hear you. No rush, remember I’m on your time, love.” He kissed my forehead before heading back into the bedroom.

I remained seated in the kitchen and took in what he said. Jacob didn’t have to tell me because I felt the same. It took a lot of restraint for me to pull away from our kiss. If he kissed me like that again, I wasn’t sure I would be able to stop.
