“I guess that makes you a spring chicken then, ‘ey, Prez.” I grin. “Where’s your old lady anyway? I haven’t seen her in a few days.”
“Alex had the stomach flu. Now Sunshine has it.”
“And you’re not with her?” I ask, shocked. The man’s been glued to her since he made her his old lady.
“King’s with her,” he grumbles, almost pouting. “Conan’s watching the kiddo, and Inigo’s probably somewhere fucking up the doctor for not making her better fast enough.”
“Why are you here?”
“I’m the president,” he huffs before bellowing across the room, “I swear to God, Hannibal, if you break him, you better fucking fix him. I’m running out of good prospects.”
I wince. His voice scrapes across my whiskey-soaked brain like fingernails on a chalkboard. Looking across the room, I see Hannibal’s hand wrapped around the prospect’s throat, lifting him off the ground as the guy claws at Hannibal’s hand.
“What the fuck did the prospect do?” I ask.
“Fuck knows. It’s Hannibal. Kid was probably blinking too loudly,” Blade says, shaking his head. Then he looks at me. “You not working today?”
“I’m heading in this afternoon,” I reply.
“Alright, I’ll leave you to it. Serious Hannibal, what the fuck?” He stalks away, leaving me in peace.
“Here you go, Midas.” I turn at the sound of Lil’s voice as she puts a steaming mug of coffee down on the bar.
“Thanks, darlin’.” I pick up the mug and take a sip. God, that’s good. “So… what do you think of the new girls?” I ask casually.
She shrugs. “It’s too early to tell. But I don’t see all of them lasting it past the trial, period Blade said they could have.”
“Wait. A trial period? To be a bunny?” I ask, and she nods. “It won’t take a trial period to figure out if they like dirty fucking or not.”
Lil sucks in a breath, and I curse silently. Sometimes I forget that she’s a bunny. Not because she’s not sexy as hell, but because she acts so differently from the rest.
She doesn’t say anything, just gives me a glare that says more than words ever could. Then she walks away.
I look away just as the door swings open and Legs walks in. She heads straight over, smiling at Lil as she holds her hand out.
“Hi. Lil, right? I haven’t really gotten a chance to talk to you since I arrived. I’m Legs. It’s nice to meet you.”
Lil hesitates for a moment, then leans over the bar with a smile and shakes her hand. “I can’t remember the last time I shook someone’s hand. Is that weird?”
“Bikers usually want us to shake something else,” Legs says with a wink, making Lil giggle.
“You’re not wrong.”
Legs turns to look at me and smiles—but again, knowing it’s not the same smile from yesterday pisses me off, though I don’t let it show.
“Hey, Midas.”
“Hey,” I mutter back. She looks back at Lil. “You wanna maybe hang out sometime? Maybe grab a coffee, do a little retail therapy? I still need a few things for my room. I got distracted last time and don’t really know my way around yet.”
Lil looks caught off guard, and I frown before remembering that most of her so-called friends bailed after everything went down, leaving her to deal with the aftermath alone.
“Um… sure. That sounds great. When were you thinking?”
Legs shrugs. “I’m easy. You pick a day that works best for you. I just need to check with Blade to see what he wants me to do around here. But otherwise, I’m free.”
“He’s pretty easygoing. He likes us to pull our weight, but he doesn’t hand out jobs unless he thinks we’re slacking. Or if they need the prospect for something, which usually means working the bar.”
She nods. “Okay, that’s doable. What about meals?”
