Jules

I was in over my head. Or I had been killed by my debt collectors and I was currently living in some sort of heaven-world where everything was perfect and alphas were polite and kind. And also gorgeous with laughter-filled eyes and a gentle touch.

Never in my life had I spent a day quite like this.

Westley was kind, attentive, sweet, and so incredibly sexy I couldn’t bear to look at him for too long without blushing.

I’d never put a lot of thought into having an alpha of my own, I was too busy trying to survive.

But if I did, it would be a man like Westley.

In addition to his personality, he was also three times my size.

I never realized how much a turn-on it was to have an alpha around who could toss me over his shoulder with one arm.

I may have spent a few minutes throughout the day fantasizing about Westley tossing me around… onto a bed.

The day had been amazing. Between the breakfast we shared, the museum we enjoyed, and the lunch we devoured, I was swooning hard for this alpha.

I stayed close to Westley’s side throughout the day.

Many times, he even grabbed my hand to keep me close to him while we were in crowds of people.

It felt crazy that I was working and getting paid for this time. I hadn’t enjoyed myself like this ever.

He asked me questions and listened when I answered. He told me about his den and his family. His eyes danced with laughter when he talked of his siblings and his young nieces and nephews.

The shipwreck museum had been educational and Westley stopped at every placard to read the information.

Many times he read it out oud to me so that we could both learn.

He lit up each time he found an interesting fact to share.

He was delighted with the pictures of the ships and artifacts that were on display.

We stopped at the gift shop last. I had no money to spend on myself, nor did I need overpriced knick-knacks, even though I wouldn’t mind a memento from this day.

Westley browsed the kids’ section and eventually picked out two toy swords and a treasure chest filled with fake coins.

His eyes lit up as he looked it all over, and I thought for a moment he was going to challenge me to a duel with the treasure chest as his prize.

I bet he had a lot of fun playing in the yard with the cubs in his den. He was the sort who would let them climb all over his back and tackle him to the ground in a play fight that he let them win.

He was amazing, everything I could hope for in an alpha.

Unfortunately, this was not some meet-cute in a Hallmark movie.

I was working as his companion. I was practically his hired sex worker.

Only he wasn’t using me for sex. He should have been taking my virginity, but he seemed to find that idea…

well, not repulsive, but close to. Yet he didn’t shy away from holding my hand or pulling me close while we watched the short documentary at the museum.

I’d been hesitant to start this job, despite needing the money, because I’d been terrified at the idea of giving myself to an alpha I didn’t love and hadn’t chosen, yet when I thought of sharing myself with Westley, the idea was nowhere near terrifying.

Excitement pooled in my gut at the idea of being with Westley in such an intimate way.

The way he held my hand and smiled at me made me think he’d approach his lovemaking in a similar, gentle way.

I wished with all my heart that it could be different and that we had met under different circumstances.

For some reason, we were still holding hands as we walked through the halls of the resort.

We stepped outside and made the quick trek to his cabin, and still he held on to me.

With his other hand, he put in his key card and let us into the cabin.

The cool air hit me immediately, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Outside it was hot and sticky.

“Oh, that feels good,” I said. “I didn’t realize it was going to be so warm today.

” I was wearing the clothes the resort had given to me.

Short shorts that I constantly tugged down so my ass cheeks didn’t hang out and a too-tight polo.

My own clothes weren’t nice enough for their standards.

The blue polo was a size too small and clung to me like a second skin.

The shorts weren’t much better. I’d had to apply sunscreen twice already because I had so much skin exposed.

Westley chuckled. “Me neither. I’m not used to this kind of heat.”

“Really? Is it cold where you live?”

“No. But sometimes I wish it was. I like the snow. The tropics aren’t usually my first choice.”

“Yet, here you are.”

He shrugged. “My sister recommended this place. Or rather a place with a similar name.” His cheeks pinkened, and not from the sun.

“I didn’t mean to book this place. I think perhaps I must have found the wrong one.

There’s no way she and her husband came to a place like this on their honeymoon. But I’m glad I did.”

Right. He probably wouldn’t be here with a companion if it hadn’t been an accident. “There’s another resort close by with a similar name. I think they might be owned by the same company.”

“That explains it then,” he said.

I covered my mouth with my hand as I fought back a yawn. It was only midday, yet I felt like I could crawl into bed and sleep.

“Why don’t we relax for a bit before our next adventure?” Westley suggested. “We have time.”

I opened my mouth to argue, but Westley kicked off his shoes and settled onto the couch. He might have been resting just for my benefit, but I was so tired that I wasn’t going to argue. We still had a lot to do yet today.

“Any thoughts on what you might like for dinner? I can arrange to have it delivered right as we get back from snorkeling.” I toed off my shoes and sat on the edge of the bed. It wasn’t worth arguing that I should take the couch. I knew that Westley would insist I take the bed.

“Hmm. That sounds nice.” Westley looked too big for the small couch. His oversized shoulders hung over the edge of the cushion and his feet were resting on the coffee table.

I looked over to see that Westley’s eyes had drifted closed. So he wasn’t just humoring me. He was just as tired as I was.

I smiled as I watched him. Despite his large frame that might scare a person if they didn’t know him, there was a softness to his features, especially when he slept.

With each soft breath he took, his lips pursed.

I was unable to look away from them, wondering what they might feel and taste like.

Kisses were in short supply in my world.

Operating in survival mode didn’t lend itself to any romantic rendezvous.

I couldn’t remember the last time I had been kissed.

Perhaps when I was in high school? I knew I wanted kisses now. From Westley.

Finally I had to look away or else I was going to do something naughty while I was supposed to be ordering Westley’s dinner.

I quickly put in the order for a chicken dinner with several different side options to be delivered later in the evening.

On a whim I also requested dessert. After a long day of sightseeing, we might need some sugar.

Once that was done, I settled on the bed next to the pillow Westley had used the night before.

I hugged it to my chest and inhaled his scent.

The cleaning crew had clearly been here earlier, but thankfully Westley’s scent lingered.

I set an alarm for an hour so that we didn’t oversleep and miss the rest of our day’s activities. Then I closed my eyes, letting myself imagine just for a minute that Westley had meant to vacation with me. That he was my alpha and sharing a bed with him was a normal everyday thing.
