I assumed that sleeping in the same bed with another person wouldn’t be that big of a deal, because I did not move when I slept.

Every night I laid down, placed my hands behind my head, and calmly drifted off to sleep.

Every morning I woke up in that same position.

I’d had few opportunities in my life to ever find out what sleeping with another person was like.

The only example I had was when I was a kid and our basement flooded, so all of us went to stay with our grandparents for a week, and they had a small house.

My sister, brother, and I all piled into one room each night, spread across two air mattresses.

We were smaller then, but Kip had always been a mover.

Having my brother kick and smack me in the middle of the night was way different than sleeping next to a delicious omega.

I remained still for the night.

I did not account for the fact that not everyone sleeps that way, and it seemed that the omega in question was a thrasher and a mover.

Once he got comfortable, he never moved.

However, it seemed the only place he was comfortable was draped over my chest, hugging me tightly.

Even when I tried to move, I could not, because he was plastered to my side.

The heat of his fingertips branded my skin until I ached for the touch.

Each time I attempted to get away from him, he would mumble in his sleep and grasp at my hip like I was his personal pillow.

Perhaps I was. I didn’t hate it. And therein lay the problem. He was not my omega to snuggle with, even if my heart seriously thought that he was. My bear called out to him like he knew Jules personally.

I awoke early, as I often did, and calmly waited for Jules to wake up.

I didn’t dare move. My body was already near the breaking point, having an attractive omega who smelled like blackberries ripening in the sun.

My bear was just below the surface, ready to soak in Jules’s essence and bury our nose into his neck to inhale his delicious scent.

And if we ended up leaving our mating mark there…

No. I couldn’t think those thoughts when Jules was so tightly wrapped around me. My cock already ached with need.

Jules woke up slowly, stretching his arms out, pushing at my chest, and then blinking sleepily at me, looking just as delicious as he had the day before.

His smile came slowly and lazily, like he had not a care in the world. It was a good look for him, one I wanted to see every day. “Good morning.” As it dawned on him as to where he was and who I was, his face contorted into surprise. “Holy shit, I’m so sorry.” He scrambled off me.

Unfortunately, his knee came into contact with my balls in his quest to get away from me as fast as possible. Pain shot through my body, and I folded in half, my hands going to my groin as if they could stop the pain from spreading.

“Oh goodness. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry, sir, please. I’m so sorry.”

He reached for me, but I flinched away. I didn’t need him putting his hands anywhere on my body—not because I was afraid of him or worried he might hurt me, but because I just spent the last hour fighting my arousal while having him next to me.

There was a thin line between pain and pleasure, and I was not convinced if Jules touched me I wouldn’t explode.

And now he was awake, looking delicious and cute the way his blush swept across his cheeks. I had little control left.

“Don’t worry about it,” I said. “I’m fine.

” It was my turn to scramble away. I turned my back to him so he wouldn’t see the effect he was having on me.

Even though morning wood was typical for males, this was borderline obscene.

I couldn’t remember a time when I was this hard, leaking precum like some sort of teenager out of control.

All because of Jules’s scent and the way he clung to me like I was his alpha.

His protector. It was exactly what I wanted to be. “I’m going to shower.”

“Why don’t I order us some breakfast?” he added helpfully.

“That would be great.”

“I’ll get your schedule for the day, too.”

“Thanks.” While I didn’t need him to organize things for me, if it made him feel better to do it, then I would let him.

In the shower, I quickly took care of the problem as quietly as I could.

That would hopefully help me keep my thoughts at bay for how I felt about this omega.

He was everything that my bear wanted in a mate and everything I could not have.

Clearly Jules was struggling financially.

I didn’t know much about his story, but I knew that.

I would help him keep this job, even though the thought of him being someone else’s companion after my vacation was over had my hackles rising.

I would not under any circumstances take advantage of his situation. If he wanted me, then I wanted it to be because of me as a person, as an alpha. Not because of his obligation to do his job.

When I came out of the shower, there were two large breakfast dishes waiting for me on the table.

“This looks delicious. Thank you.”

He shrugged. “I didn’t do anything except let them know what we wanted. They have other meal options if you’re still hungry, and they can deliver snacks.”

I sat down and dug right in, taking a long gulp of the cup of coffee.

“You drink it black?” he asked.

I nodded. “Every once in a while, I get one of those fancy lattes, but my everyday go-to is just regular plain coffee.”

“Me too,” he said. “I’ve never tried a latte before.

But they smell delicious. There’s a coffee place I passed on my walk home, back when I lived in the city.

They always had a long line out the door.

I’ve wondered what they tasted like. Everything smelled so sweet, and in the summertime, they had a raspberry latte that sounded divine. ”

Jules’s eyes were bright as he talked, his smile lighting up his face. How was it this man had never had a simple latte before? I could fix that.

“We can get one when we’re out and about today.”

He sat up straight, his eyes going wide with surprise. “Oh, that’s not—I wasn’t trying—”

“I’ll need more coffee today. It’s my vacation, and I want to splurge a little.” I grinned at him, softening my features so that I didn’t frighten him. The poor guy was so skittish around me. If only he knew how closely he had wrapped himself around me while he slept.

His smile was tentative now, but no less radiant. “Okay. That sounds nice. It looks like you have a tour of the shipwreck museum at ten. Once we’re finished with breakfast, we can head toward that. Later today, you have snorkeling. We have to meet the boat at three.”

“That sounds great. Have you ever been?”

Jules shook his head. “No. I’ve lived in the area for a few years now, you would think I would have done all the tourist things, but I really haven’t.”

“Well, that’s okay. We can do them together. Anything you’d like to see or do?”

He shook his head. “Well… I kind of always wanted to do one of those boat tours of the cliffs. The one where it goes under that waterfall looks amazing.”

“Then let’s do that, too. I don’t have anything booked for tomorrow.”

“Are you sure? I don’t want to interfere with your vacation. We should do what you want to do.”

“I am. I was looking for more things to do anyway. I only booked a few excursions. I assumed that I would hang around my room and sit by the pool reading. That was the extent of my planning.”

“You still can. You don’t have to worry about entertaining me. In fact, I should be entertaining you.”

“We’ll entertain each other. Platonically.” I winked.

That blush swept across his cheeks again.

“At some point today, I will need to let my bear out. I really should have last night, but I was exhausted,” I said. My bear especially needed to run after being cooped up on a plane for hours and then having the temptation of Jules in my bed.

“After the tour, we can have lunch and then check out the woods. Not that I have to come with you, of course.”

“No, you should. You have to let your bear out too, I assume?”

Jules nodded.

“Perfect. Let’s do it.”
