Chapter 27

Scuba

R oad trips sucked now.

The games were fun. I loved going into another team’s barn and just crushing their spirits and then going out afterward with the prettiest puck bunny a guy could find.

But now that I’d turned celibate, they were just incredibly boring.

I needed something to do before I died of boredom. Looking around the room, I saw that Suzuki and Carter were still there, but most of the guys had already filtered onto the bus back to the hotel.

“Up for doing something tonight?” I asked.

Spence looked at his buddy and then at me. “What do you have in mind?”

Thumbing through my phone, I swiped to see what might be interesting to do in Minneapolis since all my normal haunts wouldn’t help my cause to stay pure.

“Um, not sure. I just want to do something fun.”

Carter spoke up and suggested, “Let’s do that glow-in-the-dark golf course. I bet I can whip both your asses in that.”

That elicited a chuckle from both Spence and me. Carter was one of the most competitive people I knew. Only Gavin and Klaus Lagerfield from the Sound seemed to be on par with his competitive nature. But I’d seen his golf game before, and it was trash.

“Oh, you’re on.”

Since I was on my phone, I texted the other Spencer about tonight’s plans. Despite being around hockey for so long and knowing most of the team’s shit stirrers were some of your best friends, I still couldn’t get over the fact of how much I loved hanging out with both Spencers.

Spence shrugged. “Why not? Although, shouldn’t we get a fourth?”

I raised my phone and waved it at the guys since I was just waiting on a yay or nay from Levine. “Already on it.”

“You and your damn cellphone,” Carter grumbled. He was one of the few guys who didn’t seem to be glued to his.

I just pretended I didn’t hear him, especially since there were a few notifications that came in that needed my attention.

While I probably should have opened the message from Spencer Levine first so we would know if we had a fourth for some golf, I opened up the message from Annie instead.

Great job tonight, and someone wanted to show you something.

Attached was a photo of Eric holding up a sign that said, “Great job, Dad,” complete with him giving me a thumbs up and wearing my jersey. It absolutely melted my heart.

And it made me miss my family even more than I already did.

Too cute

Then I looked at Levine’s response.

I’m in.

“Deuce is in for tonight,” I said to the guys.

Carter shrugged on his jacket. “Come on, they’re going to be waiting for us.”

We got on the bus to get back to the hotel. That way, we could do our own thing at the golf course.
