Story: Too Hard to Resist
When I clicked on it, I saw it was a woman called Chardonnay.
That was his ex. I knew it was something related to wine.
She had a few more recent posts. One from a few days ago at a restaurant, holding some guy’s hand. That post had been liked by Edward.
So he had time to like his ex’s post, but couldn’t even take two seconds to message me? Twat.
Then I noticed Chardonnay had some stories that were still live, so clicked them straightaway.
But when I saw what was on the screen, my jaw dropped and my stomach plummeted.
It was a photo of Chardonnay.
Touching her bare stomach.
With Edward standing beside her, with his hand also touching her belly.
The caption read:
It’s early days, but we’re thrilled to announce that we’re expecting!
I blinked, then blinked again.
My phone slid out of my palm and crashed onto the sand.
There wasn’t a sick family member.
Edward wasn’t grieving.
All this time I was worrying about him, feeling like the worst person in the world because I had feelings for Romeo, Edward was with his ex.
Hispregnantex.
Anger bubbled in my chest and tears stung my eyes.
I scooped up my phone then started running.
I needed to get out of here.

ROMEO
‘Sammie!’ I called out as I saw her running away from the beach.
One minute she was speaking on the phone then the next time I looked, Sammie was racing away.
I should call a colleague to cover me, then excuse myself from the guests, but there was no time. I needed to go after Sammie. I had to find out what was wrong.
I sprinted after her and caught up before we reached the pool area.
‘Sammie!’ I shouted seconds before I grabbed her arm. When I stood in front of her, I saw tears rolling down her cheeks. ‘Why are you crying? What happened?’
‘That lying motherfucker!’ she shouted.
‘Who?’
‘Edward!’ she hissed.
