Story: The Vampire's Seduction
“We’re not,” she bit out.
“Then I don’t have any problems.” To Dr. Wells, he said, “You can use my blood.”
“Fine.” Dr. Wells strode to a small cabinet and took something out. When he moved over to Marek, Olivia saw it was a small syringe with a short needle. Marek rolled up his sleeves and held out his arm, the dark bluish vein clearly visible on his pale skin.
The older doctor withdrew a small amount of blood and looked at Olivia. “You’re sure about this?”
“Yes.”
Sighing, he sanitized a patch on Betsy’s arm before injecting the blood. Olivia waited anxiously, counting the seconds.
One. Two. Five. Ten.
Come on, Betsy. Come on!
“It didn’t work,” she said after thirty, deflated. VB acted extremely fast. She’d seen it heal a broken arm in less than ten seconds.
Yet, hope refused to extinguish. Part of her whispered,Any second now, any second now and she’ll wake up.
“You tried.” Marek’s voice was surprisingly gentle.
But it’s not enough! She wanted to shout.
“We’ll find something.” When she stayed mute, he gently tugged at her until she faced him, his fingers gripping her chin until their gazes met. As much as she wished, she couldn’t look away. His evident sincerity and quiet determination trapped her. Here was another who wouldn’t give up until he succeeded in his goal.
Why did that both frighten her and turn her on?
“Olivia, I promise I’ll use everything in my power to save your sister.”
“Why? So you can interrogate her when she wakes up?”
“Yes.” A heartbreaking grin. “But also because I want to help you.” He addressed Dr. Wells and the others, “Can you give us a moment alone, please?”
Dr. Wells nodded. “I’ll go check on the other patients.”
“I’ll be outside if you need me.” Sam sent Olivia a meaningful look before exiting.
Olivia raised a skeptical brow. “What’s so important?”
Marek took a deep breath. This was the first time he had shown any hesitation in their time together. Good to know that even him, a god-knows-how-old vampire, dealt with uncertainty.
“Do I want to know?” she asked quickly.
“What?”
“Whatever you’re about to tell me, do I want to know?”
He scrutinized her. “Would you prefer I keep it from you?”
“No, tell me.” She’d gone into the scientific field because science didn’t lie. It wasn’t in her to deny herself the truth.
“You’re my mate.”
Chapter Seven
Oliviablinked.Blinkedagain.Had she heard right? He looked honest and sincere, the tenderness in his gaze reaching for her soul, but…
“I’m not in the mood for any jokes.”
