Story: The Vampire's Seduction
She swallowed, her mouth suddenly dry, as she wondered if his muscles would feel as hard as they looked under his shirt.
God, what’s wrong with me? Now’s not the time to be horny—a six-month dry spell notwithstanding.
There was something else about him, some kind of inhuman essence. An aura that said he was more. Her jaws slackened when it hit her. Thank God she hadn’t stood up.
Vampire. He was a vampire. That explained her body’s strong and instant attraction to him. Vampires were known for the sexual allure they extruded that enticed humans, a kind of survival mechanism luring their prey to them. Since vampires were her general field of study, she’d read several studies done on this phenomenon. Scientists thought it must be some kind of pheromone they emitted, but so far, studies have failed to identify the exact pheromone.
Just imagine the money you could make with a cologne using vampire pheromones. It might outsell Viagra.
“Good. You’re awake,” the stunning vampire said in a smooth baritone, reminding her of sinful nights on a beach somewhere with the windows open, like those old James Bond movies. Her thighs clenched at the image of his body covering hers.
She opened her mouth. No sound came out.Get it together! You’ve met vampires before.
Yes, for a total of three times, and she hadn’t lost her speech abilities. Granted, none of them had quite looked like a GQ model.
“Who are you? Where am I? What do you want?” The questions spilled out of her once her voice worked. “Did you attack Zylotech?”
His hands on the trays clenched, and a quick flash of anger in those surreal blue eyes, but he said nothing, striding to the desk where he dropped the tray. Her eyes were glued to his strong profile, and she congratulated herself for only a brief glance at his ass.
“Are you hungry? Thirsty?” he asked, his tone neutral.
“No, I’m not,” she lied. A glass of water would be amazing. “Answer my question.”
“Which one?” He leaned his hips on the desk and crossed his arms. His shirt sleeves stretched tighter over his biceps. Everything about this man, this vampire, was a lesson in seduction.
“All of them, obviously,” she retorted.
“I’m Marek, and yes, I led the attack on Zylotech.” His eyes glinted with challenge at the admission. “You’re in a hotel room, but don’t think about screaming for help. No one will come.”
The thought of screaming hadn’t occurred to her. For some stupid reason, she wasn’t afraid for her life. He was a vampire. Even if she called his bluff and screamed and people came to help, he would kill them in cold blood, like those dead guards in Zylotech.
She suppressed a shiver. He could kill her before she even had a chance to scream. Instead, he’d brought her here and offered her food and water.
“What do you want?” She glanced at the door. No way could she outrun a vampire.
“What were you doing at Zylotech?”
“I work there.”
He growled, an inhuman sound that made her want to crawl back and hide under the covers until the nightmare was over. Menace rolled off him in waves. Red circled his irises, the universal sign for an enraged vampire.
Icy blades of fear sliced her insides to ribbons. Was this it? Was this the end? Damn it. All because she’d forgotten her freaking phone. If she died here, would the police ever figure out what happened to her? Would they find her body? Or would he dump her in the desert to be eaten by wild animals?
What would happen to Betsy?
Take care of your sister.Mama’s last words played in her head. She couldn’t die here. But what could she do against a vampire a hundred times stronger than she was?
“So, it’s true. You dissect vampires,” he spit out the words as though she was a cockroach to be smeared under his heel. Snarling fury roughened his voice. “We’re not lab rats for you to study.”
Ah, so he was one of those. Like humans, vampires didn’t agree all the time, either. There were those who were against scientific study of their kind. They wished to keep their mystique, but the vampire leaders in Washington DC were supportive of scientific research.Theywere all about cooperation between humans and vampires as the two races walked toward the future together.
He must’ve been a vampire anarchist and attacked Zylotech to destroy vampiric research and sow chaos. He hadn’t been after her research, which boded ill for her. If he was after her research, then at least she had something to offer him.
Now, she wasn’t sure.
How to get out of this? He also hadn’t answered her question about what he wanted from her. How did one deal with a crazy vampire?
“Marek,” she said his name slowly. “Look, I study vampire blood and its benefits in medical usage, but I don’t dissect vampires, and I definitely don’t think of vampires as lab rats.”
