Story: The Drop
"When you say stuff like that, it hurts my feelings," Adam replies, turning away from Bear with a mock pout.
"I'm just joking," Bear says, patting him on the back. "But I do see a lot more than you guys do on the ice."
We all nod, knowing that Bear notices angles we can't.
"I knew you were joking," Adam laughs, shifting the conversation away from Johnson. "How could you not like me?"
"And there it is."
Chapter Fifty Three
Brooke
I'm snuggled up in bed after a night chilling and watching movies with Cami when my phone buzzes next to me and then stops. Reaching for it as it starts again, popping up with Grant's name, and I smile, but it stops before I can answer it, and I frown. I jump when I hear a faint knocking on the door, and I slip out of bed, phone in hand, as Cami pops her head out, too.
"Did Grant just ring you?" she whispers, walking out into the hall as the knocking stops.
"Yeah, did he call you?" I whisper as we walk down the hallway together.
"No," she scoffs. "Gunnar did."
"Did he now?" I laugh, forgetting to whisper, and she puts a hand over my mouth, glaring at me.
That's when we both hear laughing outside our door, and we tiptoe over to it, and I look in the peephole and snort.
"What?!" Cami pushes me aside and bursts out laughing.
I pull the door open, and our four hulking hockey player neighbours shriek like little girls.
"Well, what do we have here, B?" Cami asks mockingly as we look down at them spread out on our divide with the whole of McDonald's menu between them.
"Mmm, looks like someone had a good night, Cam," I mock back as I nudge Adam with my foot to make sure he's alive, as his eyes are closed.
"Sure does."
"It's Brookie and Cami." Bear lifts his arms wide towards us, smiling, then it turns into a frown quickly. "Wait, no, you said we had to be quiet, so we didn't wake them up."
"I did say that," Grant mutters, pulling himself up and leaning against the door, giving me a sexy, drunken smile.
"You okay there, Captain?" I smirk up at him as he wobbles.
"We lost our keys," Gunnar whines from the floor, and Cami covers her mouth with her hand, trying to smother her laughter.
"You all lost your keys?" I ask, looking at them incredulously while they nod. Well, not Adam, he's now snoring.
"Can we stay with you guys?" Bear asks, trying to get up but ends up landing on Gunnar, who grunts out in pain.
"I mean, we can't say no." Cami laughs. "I've never seen you guys this drunk."
I move so Grant can fall through our door, but he catches himself and slaps me on the butt as I lean down to help Gunnar get Adam up. Yelping, I drop Adam back, and he curls up in the fetal position, swatting Gunnar's hands away.
"I've got him, Brookie." Bear smiles, picking Adam up bridal style, and Cami, Gunnar, and I watch on with a mixture of shock and impressed as he carries him into the apartment.
"What happened?" I whisper in awe of Bear as we follow him into the apartment.
"We played a drinking game." Gunnar shrugs, taking his shoes off, and he seems the most sober of the bunch as Grant has plonked himself on the floor, legs wide, trying to pull his shoes off.
"Best game ever," Adam shouts from where Bear drops him on the sofa.
