Story: Taming of a Rebel
Tori grinned broadly. “You know what? Me too. A house full of kids, my soulmate next to me.”
Miranda stilled. “You know that the goal is for Rebel to live with Tierney.”
“Eventually, but not tomorrow.”
“No, not tomorrow.” Miranda looked into Tori’s eyes, trying to get a read on the conversation, but she was so bad at this. She’d gotten better over the last few months, but this still wasn’t something she’d consider herself proficient at.
“Do you want kids?” Tori tentatively asked.
“Don’t you think that’s a discussion we should have had before you moved in with me?” Miranda shifted, putting some space between them and setting the beer onto the coffee table.
“Miranda…I—how do I say this? I wouldn’t mind having another kid. I know Harley would love a sibling, but it’s not a deal-breaker for me.”
Miranda nodded, more to herself than Tori, as that knowledge settled into the pit of her stomach. “We can talk about it.”
“Yeah, we don’t have to talk about it today.” Tori wrapped her arm over Miranda’s shoulder. “Tonight I want to sit here with you, snuggle into you, and pass out like a drunk college student.”
Miranda laughed. “I want a massage.”
“That can be arranged.” Tori winked.
Miranda groaned. “Not one of those massages.”
“Oh. Well. Fine. Rain on my parade.”
Miranda kissed Tori softly. “We can do that kind of massage another night.”
“In the morning?”
“You’re insatiable.”
“I have free access now.”
“Hmmm…you do.” Miranda stilled. Then she did something unexpected. She pushed up on her knees and straddled Tori on the couch. Leaning down, she pressed their mouths together. “We have all the nights and all the mornings together.”
Tori grinned up at her. “I’m so glad that I met you.”
Miranda kissed her again. “It’s a good thing I had a Rebel who needed taming.”
Laughing, Tori shook her head. “What will we do without her?”
“I have a feeling she’ll never be too far away.”
“Auntie?” Rebel’s small voice broke the moment.
Miranda dropped her head onto Tori’s shoulder with a sigh. “See?”
Rebel crawled up onto the couch and tried to slide herself between them. Miranda laughed and pulled away, snagging Rebel up in her arms. She dropped a kiss into Rebel’s hair and sent a look to Tori. “Let me put her back to bed.”
“You do that. I’m going to take a shower, and maybe, when you’re done, you can join me.”
Miranda laughed as she walked away. Who would have ever thought this would be her life?
