Story: Taming of a Rebel
“We do.” Tori winked and kissed Miranda’s cheek. “Any news on Tierney moving out?”
Miranda shook her head. “Not permanently. She is renting a studio in Vancouver, but she still stays here two nights a week.”
“When she’s not working,” Tori said, like a statement.
“She’s kept the job for three months. Longest one she’s had in years.” Miranda tightened her clasp on Tori’s fingers. “I just hope she continues to work at it.”
“It seems like she’s trying.”
“You know, it does.” Miranda had comforted herself with that thought many times over the last few months. Tierney was taking on parenting roles in ways she never had before, and holding down a job and remaining single was a good step toward that.
“Hello?” Aili’s voice rang down the hall.
Harley’s ears perked up instantly, and she ran when Tori nodded at her. Rebel was quick to follow. Tori took the chance and had Miranda pinned against the wall and their mouths melding together in an instant. Miranda moaned, clutching Tori’s sides as she held on for dear life. She hadn’t expected this, the suddenness of what Tori would do. She’d experienced it before, but for some reason, she’d anticipated that when they lived together it would calm down. It still might as the days dragged into months.
“Stop thinking,” Tori muttered and kissed her again, this time sliding her body against Miranda’s in an intoxicating way.
Miranda laughed lightly and lifted her arms to wrap them around Tori’s neck and keep her close. If she could get full kisses like this now whenever she wanted, then she would take it.
“Oh, you two are gross.” Siena’s voice might as well have announced her rolling her eyes. “Get a room.”
“I think they’re adorable,” Aili said.
“Mommy!”
Miranda winced and tried to pull away, but Tori stayed put. Eventually, she pushed Tori with a kiss and broke the embrace. Turning her head, she found Siena and Aili standing at the end of the hall with the kids next to them.
“Like I said, get a room!” Siena laughed, her comment coming off not harsh but joking.
“That’s what we’re doing.” Tori flicked her middle finger up at Siena before hiding it behind her back where the kids couldn’t see.
Miranda straightened her back, determined not to step into the middle of that. She smoothed her hands over her pants and couldn’t figure out where to even start.
“Let’s get this truck done.” Aili walked away with Rebel.
Tori chuckled and snagged Miranda’s hand again. “Where do you want us to stash everything?”
“I honestly don’t know.” Miranda hadn’t done this before. Ever. And that age-old panic started to swell in her chest again.
Tori reached up and cupped her cheek, bringing her chin around so they faced each other. “Take a breath, Miranda. I’m right here.”
“I know.” She did as she was told, calming the fear that threatened to burst out of her. “I’ve never moved in with anyone before.”
“I know.” Tori kissed her cheek. “That’s why I feel so special to have the honor.”
“You are special,” Miranda countered. “I wouldn’t do this for anyone else.”
Tori melted right in front of her. This time the kiss didn’t have the same heat as before. It was full of warmth. Miranda parted her mouth, sliding her tongue along Tori’s lips and closing her eyes. This was what she had wanted. This was what they had worked toward. She just had to keep reminding herself of that.
“Again?” Siena’s voice boomed down the hall.
Miranda jerked back. Tori snorted. “Yes! Again! Shut up. We were there once.”
Siena rolled her eyes. “I know. You locked the back of the truck. We can’t start unloading without the key.”
“Right. Here.” Tori reached into her pocket and threw the keys at Siena. “And yes, get used to it already.”
“I will. Just give me a few weeks to make gross sounds at how cute you two are together. And I’ll remind you—repeatedly—that you wouldn’t be here without me.”
