Taylor shrugged. “Don’t know. I’ve never worked on something like
this before. I trust them. There are three different crews in there. They’re
supposed to coordinate with each other.”
Christine sighed. “I’m pretty sure they’re just working at whatever pace
they want, trying to stay out of each other’s way.”
Taylor frowned. “Is that an accusation? I definitely hear an accusation in
there. Let me guess. This is the part where you inform me that I need to be
doing better, working harder, staying organized, supervising everyone, and
doing everything else to get to opening day, which you seriously hope is
going to be soon, because your bacon is still out there waving on the line.”
Taylor was trying to be difficult, but Christina’s lips quirked up at the
angry tone. That only caused another crease to form in Taylor’s forehead.
She looked smoking hot like that, beads of sweat dotting her hairline and
her eyes a darker green than ever, her cheeks pink from all the hard work
she’d been doing.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to be critical.”
“No, of course not. Even though you’re technically the project manager
and haven’t managed anything, don’t worry about it. Of course, you can
come here and criticize me when I’ve been putting all my spare hours in
both here and at home. When I’ve been working my butt off to save yours
and a ton of people that I don’t even know all because some creep at your
office objectified women in a really gross way.”
“Really? I thought you wanted your business to succeed. So, the creep
shouldn’t be the only reason you’re working your butt off.”
Taylor’s scowl deepened again. The flush on her cheeks darkened. “You
don’t have to come here and check up on me. I send you an email every
single day. I could have sent photos if you wanted more proof.”
I have to stop this before she gets even angrier. And more attractive.
Christina felt a shiver go racing down her spine even though it was
