“Break up with you?” Christina gasped. “No! No! That’s the exact
opposite of what I was thinking. I would never— I mean, we both knew
that things would change when we went back to working at separate jobs,
but I— I hope that you don’t still think that—”
“No!” Taylor assured her. “No. That was just— a moment of temporary
insanity. Insecurity. I guess I was feeling the change too. I thought maybe
you wouldn’t have time for us anymore.”
“I’ll always have time for you!” Christina’s eyes misted over, but she
pushed forward. “I don’t want to sugar coat this. It’s going to be a lot of
work. A lot of hours. A lot of frustration trying to get things going. I don’t
want to seem vacant or unavailable, but I will need to commit to it if I’m
going to do it.”
“I understand. Believe me, I have some idea now how much it takes to
get something up and running. I’ll be here. I’ll help with whatever I can. Me
and Chloe.” Taylor could see how much that meant to Christina. She could
feel it too, in the softest parts of her chest. In her heart, which was
hammering out a brand new, hopeful beat.
“Jeez, you guys are amazing. I’m not sure what I ever did to have you
walk into my life, but I’m sure as heck glad that you did.”
“Timing is sometimes just a really amazing thing.”
“You’re telling me.” Christina reached up and swiped the back of her
hand over her eyes. Taylor knew that Christina really didn’t show her
emotions easily. It choked Taylor up further to see it. There was a massive
lump in her throat to accompany her burning eyes.
“Whatever it takes, we’ll be here for you. This is exciting. We’ll both
own our own businesses. It’s crazy to think about it. Crazy good.”
Christina nodded. “It’s going to be.”
Taylor needed to hug Christina. She scooted over on the couch and
wrapped her arms around Christina’s neck.
“Christina!” Chloe yelled, peeling into the room. “You’re here!”
